Finned oil lines update
I went to Streets of Willow (a SoCal Track) this past weekend and had a chance to test the cooling capacity of my new finned oil lines running in track conditions.
If you aren't familiar with the topic there have been a few threads on it. Here is one: Elephant Racing oil lines Here are some pictures of the lines installed: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Being an engineer type, I need to preface this with the disclaimer that data I have so far was collected in less-than-controlled circumtances. I've had many inquiries looking for data so I wanted to share this first view, even if it is just anecdotal. I monitored the dash temp gauge and compared peak temp with previous trips to Streets of Willow. Past trips with OEM hard oil lines and a Carrera fender mount cooler I was seeing temps hit 255+ f with ambient temps around 90 f. Under similar conditions but replacing the OEM lines with my finned lines will run about 240 f. About a 15 degree f drop in temperature. Different cars will see differing results. In general cars with limited existing cooling capacity will see the greatest improvement, cars with lots of existing cooling will see less improvement. I plan to do more extensive and better controlled testing and look forward to independant reports from others. The first batch of oil lines will be shipping in a few days to those who placed pre-orders.
