Easiest project in history!
I managed to come across a chin spoiler, from an 3.2 Carrera for free. It is in pretty good condition, only one small scrape on the bottom which isn't noticeable when it's fitted. I took it home, cleaned it up with IPA (Isopropyl Alchohol) and then painted it with a matte black vinyl paint and left it to cure overnight.
Jacked the '76 up this morning and put the front on stands while I had two friends hold the ends of the spoiler in place while I drilled and fitted it. ![]() It was reasonably overcast today, so I had to brighten the images like crazy in Photoshop, but it gives you all the idea. ![]() Cost: Nil Time: Approx 20 mins (includes jacking the car and finding tools) Result: Very pleased

Very nice job Adam....
Now... you know you are going to revive the "If you have a chin spoiler you need the tail" thread right? "Otherwise your car will not react well at high speeds" I don't know if it is true or not... was there ever any solid answer either way? |

78silversc,
I knew this would surface ![]() I used to have no chin spoiler and a big-ass turbo tail (a previous owner of the previous owner fitted it) and I didn't really feel much instability until I got upto 105-110 mph. With Australia's draconian speed laws and Galactic Empire style Police power and enforcement (permanent, hidden, see-in-the-dark speed cameras) I rarely get upto these sorts of speeds unless I'm travelling the slowest in the group, or I'm a long way from anywhere. With only the tail, I felt the nose was wandering a little and felt very light. Removing the tail and experimenting on the hwy found that it was cured. There's no way I'll put the tail back on, as it's too big for a narrow-bodied 2.7 and I've learned to covet the skinny, bare end of a 911... Something about cars with chins only looks too cool.

Hi Adam. That's the setup I have on my '79SC. I kind of like the classic look of no wing on the engine lid also but have the chin spoiler on for the sake of when I'm in one of my lunatic moods. I drive at 200kms (even in cross winds), and once up to 220kms, and the car feels as solid as a rock. Just be carefull you don't loose it coming out of a gas station or steep drive way. Bill.

Don't let him fool you - the new ones don't do on as easy as that. The used one he got was stretched, and easily fit on the car. The new ones are a PIA as they need to be streched across the length of the car...

Wayne,
I didn't actually think they were as rubbery as this one is. I had, for years, expected them to be hard plastic, like on 928s. I've gingerly driven it over "speed humps/bumps" and found it clears ok, but nosing out of my driveway, it scrapes gently. Just gotta take it easy from now on, my car is pretty low. The '89 Cab is at stock ride height, so I could drive it over tree stumps without any problems. ![]()

I took another photo this morning (in the drizzle). I've been neglecting the car for the last couple of days... leaving it out in the rain and cold and letting it get covered in leaves...
