Early Porsche VIN # location?

I have a 1969 T, and I can't find the vin. Someone said its by the gas tank, I checked and can't find it. Can you send me a picture of your vin number so I know where to look? Thanks!

No pic handy but open your front hood and look just to the left of the hood latch assembly. There will be a plate with it there and look under the carpet between the smugglers box and gas tank, kind of to the left and it will be there too. Those 2 numbers are supposed to match.

No, its not on the dash, that could be it DonDavis. The next time I see my car is when I go to my dads, tuesday, or i could call him to check but its nothing urgent. I was looking by the top of the gas tank where theres that little flap for ??steering??. Anyways, if you guys got some pictures, that would be nice and I don't have carpet in the front so thats no problem. BTW, did 1969 porsches have carpet in the front trunk? And yes, when I find out a bunch of stuff I need for my car I'll also pick up those books with all original info in them. So far I know i need a gasket for the fuel sender unit I believe its called?, a shift knob, and a door stopper. Oh, and for some reason my cigarette lighter will not come out. It's not like I smoke, its just I want to brighten up the dash, and the emble is cracked. Any ideas how to get it out?

VIN plate looks like this:

It is as DonDavis said - beside the hood latch. You can't miss it if it is there - about 6" x 1.5". VIN is the 9112310012 number on this plate.

Click on this link and look to the left of the latch mechanism. If you don't have a similar plate on your car, look between the gas tank and the smugglers box. If you still can't find it I'm not sure what else to tell you. Maybe go to a local Porsche repair facility and ask them for some pointers. Good luck.

Porsche 9111T? BTW, I didn't say to look at the DASH for a VIN plate. I said, "Look through the windshield". Have you bothered to do so?

hmm I'm starting to worry, if it was someplace obvious like by the latch I would have noticed it. There was a small bump by the smugglers box and the gas tank maybe painted over with undercoat. If this is the case, what should I do?
I realy like the car, but if i cant make it what I want it to be, selling it will be no problem because I recieved many many offers while it was sitting at my uncles garage.

anyone have a picture of where it would be between the smugglers box and the gas tank? I don't know if that "bump" is the vin painted over, or the floorboard
