Brass oil line olive/ferrule size.
Can anyone tell me the specs (size, type etc) for the olives (ferrules?) on the brass oil lines which connect to the external thermostat for '79 SC? A source for same in the UK would be appreciated also. I know the diameter but there are numerous different types and I would like to get the correct ones for proper seating.

Pretty sure ferrules are not used.
Here is a screen print from this linked parts catalog. http://www.porsche.com/all/media/pdf/originalparts/usa/911_USA_78_83_KATALOG.PDF ![]() |

Thanks for the rapid response Bob. I had a problem with the pipe some years ago and had to replace the ferrule. The joint is now weeping (I have disconnected the pipe, cleaned everything, made sure that it is lined up correctly, retightened etc etc). Replacing the ferrule (olive?) was straightforward (sweated it off and new one on) but after discussing my leak with a good local hydraulics repair company it has been suggested that there are various different types of ferrule (seat shape/angle etc) and that I may have used the wrong one. Trying to find the correct spec if possible before going down the new pipe route. This is my first post but have been 'using' the forum for years, absolutely brilliant.

![]() ![]() I think you are looking for this................. ![]() ...in the 30mm size. We call it a ball nipple or a lot nippel in German. It is designed to solder or braze onto a 30mm tube which is the correct size for a 911SC. I have these available as I make up custom Oil & Fuel lines & hoses for Porsches. Please NO PM's, email me for details. Len at Autosportengineering dot com ![]() Last edited by BoxsterGT; 06-12-2012 at 10:50 AM.. |
