Where do I buy this magical stuff?
I have called every autoparts store in town plus hardware stores. Synthetic Grease yes, lithium grease yes, moly yes, silicone grease no gots. I got rubber spring plate bushings everywhere - ready to go together, help! |

Clark,
You might want to try aviation maintenance shops, scuba diving shops, or industrial bearing & seal supply stores locally ... or some of these: http://www.aeyale.com/index.htm http://www.escopro.com/ http://www.robertmckeown.com/product.htm http://www.missileworks.com/motor_materials.htm http://www.nedrhealy.com/cgi-bin/service.pl?CAT=SL http://www.medgasexperts.com/Products/compounds.htm http://www.warnerinstrument.com/ http://www.esticortland.com/products.asp?CategoryID=11 http://www.usairmotive.com/Aviation/Products.htm ------------------ Warren Hall 1973 911S Targa |

Isn't it the same as Dielectric tune-up grease available at most automotive stores?
Borg Warner also makes it in the larger tube sizes. |

Careful in the electronics supply stores, they may try to sell you silicone paste for heat-sink applications.

I bought mine at NAPA. Your local shop should have it to. Came in a tube about the size of a toothpaste tube. It is not the same as dielectric grease.

Just for the record, there is very little difference between the electrical, dielecric silicone grease, Dow Corning 4, and the valve lubricating variety, Dow Corning 111 (formerly 11) ... and, no, the white, zinc oxide filled heat sink compound is not the same! Anyone on the West coast should have very little difficulty finding it!
To paraphrase Dow, on a scale of 1 to 4 for consistency, or viscosity ... 1 - Dow Corning 7 Mold Release Compound 2 - Dow Corning 4 Electrical Insulating Compound 3 - Dow Corning 111 Valve Lubricant & Sealant 4 - Dow Corning 112 High Performance Lubricant/Sealant For those wishing to see the PDF data sheets: http://www.neelyindustries.com/pdf/111.pdf http://www.neelyindustries.com/pdf/112.pdf http://www.robertmckeown.com/dc112.htm And a comparison of several Dow silicone products: http://www.escopro.com/compound.htm ------------------ Warren Hall 1973 911S Targa |
