Gibbs Oil on Fan

Noticed a reference in another thread re:using Gibbs Oil on a cleaned aluminum fan to keep it, well, looking clean. Anyone ever used this stuff and does it do the job. Eternally cleaning the fan and shroud for concours judging is becoming a full time job in itself. Thanks Steve

If you type "gibbs" into the search box, you will find many threads and posts on the subject.

Thanks Ronnie - should have searched first before posting - I slugged thru it all the posts on treating magnesium - am going to try Tectyl for mag housings underneath and Gibbs for the fan and housing. Even though the Gibbs sounds less permanent in preserving a thoroughly cleaned fan, for PCA Concours activities, I don't want the Tectyl residue on the fan. If anyone else has discovered a better recent solution feel free to chime in......Steve

I used it all over my tranny before I put it back in and it came out looking almost new.

I don't have a photo, but I wet sanded my fan, then "Gibbs'd" it two years ago. The gloss has diminished but no tarnish or nastiness. I just recoat it at the beginning of the year.

You should flip it over and show the button heads of the rivets. THAT'S what separates Mark Motshagen's fans from the rest...

Mine is completely correct on the backside. The rivet heads are perfectly round and aluminum like the original. I cant take pictures of the backside because its on the car. I had Dave at TRE do it so you know its correct.

I was just pointing out that mine was perfect. I dont care about the heads, it is the visable flat on the outside that matters.
