915 Clutch Guide Tube Removal
1984 911 Targa with a 915 from an 83 SC(with slots cut out for sensors).
I did a search, but could not find the definitive answer. I removed the two screws from the ears of my guide tube. What next? Do I need to buy the special tool? Can I make the special tool? It seems to be on there really tightly. Also, when I re-install, do I need to lube? Thanks in advance.

I had to whack it a few times with a rubber or plastic mallet. I used some clutch spline lube (comes with new clutch discs) to lube it.

turn the tube with a hammer and punch so you can get a crowfoot prybar under the ears, they gently work it out, one side, then the other.

Thanks, guys!!!
I guess you know what I'll be doing this weekend. Once I finish up with the trans and install the new sound pad, it will be time to put the clean engine back in the car. And then the beatings will resume. ![]()

John Walker and Schumicat - you were totally correct! I just had to tap once on an ear with a well placed screwdriver and BAM, I was then able to turn it by hand and it popped right off!
I can't believe that when the tube is removed, you can look right into the trans. I thought the seal would be in the trans housing, not the guide tube. Needless to say, my seal was shot. With the new one in, there should be no more "blue dots" on the garage floor.

Since you seem to know of what you speak, Mr. Walker, I will convert to Kendall.
Thanks again for the help.
