Sunroof seals are front and rear the same???
So at some point in the past the sunroof seals were replaced on my '86. They are there adn they work but that's about it. Whoever did this was drunk, stoned or both. Seals alternate bewteen 1/8 high to 1/8 low. Just looks like a$$.
I ordered the seals from Pelican and the both came is nice bags with Porsche part numbers etc. Finally sourced the 3M 08011. Figured I'd tackle this one night this week so I pulled the seals out of their packages last night. The rear seal that glues to the sunroof panel doesn't look 100% to me. It's not as thick as the front seal and also not the same colored felt. Front has metal stiffener and it deep black in color. Rear seal does not have the stiffener and has more of a gray tone to it. The seals on my car now are both deep shiny black. The rear seal is also thinner. The rear seal on the car appears the same as the front seal. I swear I read a post on hear last week about soemone installing the seals and having an issue with too wide a gap on the sunroof/roof seam. I can't find that thread. I'd rather not do this twice so I thought I'd post up before I start. For those who have done this should the rear seal have a stiffener in it? Do your seals match in color and thickness? They look like the ones I just bought, although mine were both the same shade of black.
When I fitted mine I glued them just under the top edge so that when the sunroof closes and squashes them a little, the seal will sit nice and flush.
