Sorry if this is Porsche 101, but what's the best way to disconnect this?
![]() Edit: Sorry for the blurry pic...

IIRC, there is a threaded collar (right above the knurled knob in your pic) that secures the trip reset cable into the dash right there. Simply unthread the collar (may have to remove the knob via the little, tiny set screw) and it comes right out.

Mike you were exactly right. You have to be careful to not lose a spacer behind the gauge, but otherwise you take off the knurled knob then unthread the small collar. The cable pulls through and you're left with the knob, the collar, a washer, and the spacer from "inside" the dash.
Now, off it goes to NH... Thanks again.

Yesterday I was removing my speedo following the above procedure, and the worst possible thing happenened - the spacer from inside the dash (where the cable exits the dash from inside) disappeared deeply into the dash crevice.
I have reached as far as I could with my hand from within the car (through the instrument holes), but couldn't find it. Does anybody have any ideas? Is there a vent outlet where it could have disappeared? Is it hard to reach the back of the dash from within the trunk? Cheers, Marco |

Can you see it anywhere? Do you have a magnetic wand? ..mine looks like an old extendable radio antennae with a small, magnetic nob on the end. Gets into small nooks pretty well. Otherwise, yes, you probably have to get to it through the trunk. I've never done it, but don't think it's that hard?

Check down by the pedals where the speedo cable passes into the tunnel....it won't respond to a magnet.
