79SC acceleration problem
Under hard acceleration my car has a miss between 3K & 4K. Before and after is ok though. It seems like the warmer the engine gets the worse the problem gets. When the engine is cold I do not have the problem (when I leave the house in the morning). This is my first Porche and since I have only had my car a couple of months I don't have much experience with problems. It is completely stock with 98000 miles.

I had a very similar problem with my car when I first bought it. Turned out to be ignition related. I replaced the plug wires, cap and rotor and the problem went away completely.

When was the last time the plugs, cap, rotor, wires were changed? Also, visually inspect all vacuum hoses to make sure they are hooked up properly and show no signs of wear, since CIS cars do NOT tolerate vacuum leaks at all.
|
It could also be a symptom of the CD unit going out. Do you have the OEM Bosch or a Permatune? Replace cap and rotor first, then wires. A good set of wires will set you back a couple hundred bucks. If you still have problems after that, try to swap out the CD unit with a friend or mechanic and go from there. I went thru this same thing on my former 79SC.

Thanks for the information. I ordered a distributor cap and rotor button today from Pelican. I'll let you know the result after the parts get here.

The cap and rotor button did not fix my problem. I'll look again for a vacuum leak.
