Hey all,
I need classic car insurance. I'm in New Jersey and need to insure my 1969 911T. I'm looking for a good company that I can trust. The only one I know of is called Leland West, but I just get their cards, I don't know anything about them. All I know is I can insure my 911 for 2,500 miles a year for 244 dollars a year with an agreed value of 35,000, 500 deductible, and 300,000 liability. Any information on them, and other classic car insurance would be very nice. Please leave what ever contact information you can, number, website, email, anything so if I decide to go with them, I can reach them. Also, your input would be very much appriciated. Thank you all. |

Did you tell them how old you were???? And still no problems?
Also, is the insured value a typo (at $35k?) I have been looking at classic insurance (in New Zealand, so the company names are of no use to you). It is pretty restricted in respect of age of drivers (I am not finding it easy to get my 21yo fiance included. Mind you, she can't drive still, so it is a non-issue).

Have you checked with your regular auto insurance company? I have my '72T insured with State Farm as an antique/classic, which does put restictions on the amount of driving. Depending on how much you need to drive, and if the car is registered as an antique, this might work for you.

How much is state farm? My dad doesn't realy like places that he would have to do it by phone. He would rather go to their office. As for the age, my dad said he'll put it under his name untill im old enough for classic car insurance. He's my dad, so I know I can trust him. But hey you never know he might love the car so much and be like "what are you talking about? this is your car? the titles got my name"

I now use Leland West. They are recommended by PCA.
my 87 Cab w/81k miles is set at $27k (probably high end of spectrum) for about $425/yr in FL where other insr co was $800/yr. $35k for a 69? wow! really worth that? I have no clue. not being smarta$$. just wondering. FL insr rates stink btw.

'Scuse me, but I do believe we're reading a bit of BS here...$35K value on a '69 T? For an under $300 premium? Nope...I've had conversations with Holly of Leland-West. I send him annual checks. IMHO, that value ain't gonna happen! And...certainly not at that premium price. Post pics of the '69 T...PLEASE!

There is a distinct posibility it is a typo - $3,500 insured value.
Based on the prior descriptions of the car, it sure isn't perfect.

Gotta watch the whole putting in my dad's name game - the companys that I investigated had very clear disclosures about the drivers in the household and access to the car. A seperately initialed and signed form concerning permitted drivers was required. So, in addition to the possible insurance fraud issues (which are VERY SIGNIFICANT) you face a real possibility of a denial of coverage in the event of a loss when someone other than the registered driver is operating it. This is a serious issue, and you may find yourself without coverage when you really need it most, and then you end up on the wrong end of the "v" in a case with the State of New Jersey. Trust me on this - the money you "save" in the lower premium will be peanuts when compared to the opening retainer to hire a lawyer, not to mention the other consequences of insurance fraud. Its just not worth it!
Regarding State Farm - they are pulling out of NJ and not writing any more policies. As for NJ coverage, make sure you get significant limits of liability (like the 300K you mentioned as a BARE MINIMUM), matching un-insured and under-insured coverage, increase income continuation to match your weekly wages, and full tort threshold. All but the last of these are very inexpensive increases to your policy. Good luck. Adam |

Insurance fruad? I dont want to do that, I though I could have my name signed up under the car. That's what I have to do when I get my permit to all the other cars. I think it costs a little extra to have that.

As for the 244 yearly 35,000 coverage, I got a little card when I ordered something from performance products. Next time I find it, I'll scan it for you guys. Probably thursday night.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but I doubt that you will be able to get a classic policy if you are under the company's threshold age (I think it was 25, but I'm not 100% sure since this was not an issue for me).
Also, regarding price of insurance, don't forget that a driver's age is typically factored into the underwriting and younger drivers end up paying more than older "more eperienced"once. I agree its not fair, but it is what it is. BTW, your car looks great! Since you mention your permit, I am assuming that you are about 17 years old, and you should be very proud of yourself for having such good taste in cars and the ability to follow through and make the decision reality. Way to go! |

Oh, your from NJ and its 25? That stinks. I guess I'll have to look around and find some place that can have my name under the insurance along with my dad, if something like that is possible. Thanks for the compliment, But I removed the carpet, door panels, the rear quarter has two dents on the side under then back seat windows. It's almost as if the previous owner was drunk and trying to park it in his garage? There are white paint marks on both sides. After body work my car should definetly look great because that's the only major problem, and I found a place that did a real nice job on my dads pathfinder. They say if i remove the chrome and trims, stuff like that its a lot cheaper to paint, "undent" so I'll do that. Theres also a dent on the right fender? which is when they took the car off the tow truck. the guy I bought it from said 400 off the price because of the dent on the fender. (i believe new fenders are 250
![]() EDIT: One last thing, these porsche prices are very wierd. The car doesn't have door pockets. I dont know whats up with that, maybe the guy took them off or it never came with them. There isn't any evidence in the door panels that there were screws there. The prices I think are 250 for door pockets? Whys the most expensive thing got to be missing, well atleast its not the dash. The only flaw I can find in the interior are cracks on the drives side knee gard. dash and passanger knee gard look fine. My dad doesn't know anything about porsches, and doesn't like them arg ![]() ![]() Last edited by Porsche911T; 05-14-2002 at 07:50 PM.. |

I insure our modified '83SC with Hagerty for an agreed value of $30,000 (which is somewhat less than I actually have in the car) and $500,000 liability for $565 a year, and I live in New York about 60 miles north of Manhattan. My daughter has been on the policy since she was 19 (Barber grad, but I don't think that was a factor) and is now 22. The fact that we planned to DE the car--and have--and that she would be driving on the track was actually a plus, in terms of Hagerty writing the policy. The only stipulation is that we have at least one more car in the household than there are drivers (four cars, three drivers), that the car be garaged and that it be used solely for pleasure. No annual mileage limitation.
Can't beat that, I don't think. I have the policy sitting right in front of me, so all of the above numbers are fact. Stephan

I had Leland West and had to sign a document for each driver under 25 that they were NOT covered. They will not cover you driving the car. Also the restrictions are pretty extensive, no driving to work, shopping and so on....
