Thumbs up New Here, have some idle questions 86 911

Hi Guys,

Im new here, just purchased my first porsche from a fellow member here. 1986 911, 73000mi, red on black. Beautiful car to drive.

The car is in very good condition, but I am having a couple minor issues with the idle.

The car seems to idle a little bit rough, im not sure if this is how they all are, or if this is something that needs to be addressed. The car does not seem to be missing, but i notice the odd "pop" or "put-put" while it idles. The car also seems to shake a little bit at idle, you can feel it through the seat (almost feels like a V8 muscle car idle, but not quite as bad)

Also, the idle seems to hunt sometimes, ranging from 950-1100rpm. It does however go away if i turn the A/C on, this stabilizes the idle.

Under load, the car drives great, it does however have a very very slight hesitation around 2500rpmm but this may be due to running with the a/c on.

It looks as though the most recent major service was about 15,000miles ago, so i am due.

Anyone have any insight for me? I have read up on everything from base idle adjustment, to loose intake manifolds.

Also, does anyone have a link for setting the base idle?

Thanks for all the help!

You shouldn't need to mess with idle adjustments. It sounds like you may have a vacuum leak.

The Put-Put comment makes me think of intake manifold or exhaust manifold gasket leaks.
