Type of rear speakers installed in a cab (89)?
I plan on changing the little rear speakers that are installed in the side panels of my cab and I was wondering how others have done it and what they have installed. There is not much room on the backside because of the roof mechanism.

I just put a new sound system in my 87 Cab. The rear speakers are very easy. There are a few screws holding on the panels on each side. It will probably take you half an hour at most assuming everything is clean and there are no cracks in your panels (mine were cracked so I spent some time repairing them using aluminum sheets and pop rivets). The stock speakers were 4" but a 5.25 will also fit pretty easily. I have a pair of Kenwood Performance 5.25 in there, but any decent speaker will be fine (try partsexpress.com for decent selection and prices). The front's are much more important to the sound in my opinion.

yep. take the money you would spend on rears and put it towards getting better fronts. when you go to a concert where are the speakers? (hint: not behind you)

For the front, I already have a 2 way component system from Focal. I have a 4 channel amplifier (4*50 W RMS) to power the front and the rear loudspeakers. I have also fitted a compact active sub-woofer under the passenger seat:
And for the rear, I was thinking of installing 2 Infinity Kappa 693.9i 6x9 loudspeakers but as I said, there is not much space behind the rear panels so I was wondering if someone had already done it. In any case, I will remove the panels this we and draw the free space on a piece of cardboard when the roof is closed and when it's open (and also somewhere in the middle). This will tell me if I can safely cut one panel and install the 6*9 speakers without interfering with the electric roof mechanism. |
