Deceleration Valve Question
 

Is the deceleration valve always "in" the system, or is it regulated in some way? In looking at all the CIS diagrams and operation information I have, it looks to me like it's always on line. The thermovalve is in the same "circuit," but that relates to the WUR.

If I start my engine from cold, warm it up for a minute or two, and head out, it runs perfectly until I turn on the A/C. With the A/C on, if I push in the clutch to stop at a light for example, the engine RPM's will drop, nearly stall the engine, and then jump up again. Sometimes this RPM drop will stall the engine completely. Once the engine is warmed up, the issue goes away.

If the deceleration valve is not regulated, is this a timing/mixture issue?

As far as I know, the deceleration valve is always "on". Under high vacuum (foot off the gas at higher rpms) from the little vac line, the valve opens to let air pass through the two big hoses. This air by-passes the throttle. I think the valve is a smog device so I'm surprised you have one in a Euro.

I doubt the valve is a problem. A more typical failure of the valve would be random high idle (easily corrected by removing and plugging the little vacuum line). It sounds more like you are running a touch lean (a vacuum leak and/or a mixture setting issue).

Lean huh? I thought I might be running a little rich due to what I consider a heavier than normal fuel odor in the exhaust, but now you've got me thinking.....

Time to have the mixture checked.......
