I am writing to update:
The high rpm (1800-2100) in idle when the car was warm were, as I suspected, a result of a vacum leak. I bought a year ago a wayne stainless-steel airbox. After hesitating for very long, the following was done: I dropped the engine Removed the boot and airbox Removed the manifold and replaced all 6 rubber pipes which were dry and unhappy Replaced the injector sleeves and gaskets Replaced the manifold gaskets Replaced the airbox with the ss one In the process, I had to make a new rod for the gas cable, as putting the ss airbox lowered the whole assembly by about 2" which caused the original rod to be too long. Enjoing access to the engine bay I did some cleaning and replaced the transmission fluid to a lighter, 90 synthetic - for which the 915 is greatful. The whole thing took me close to 4 working days, plus some idle time waiting for the new manifold pipes and the rod. But in one week the issue is completely resolved, and the engine runs round and nice. The good old sewing machine is back! The old plastic airbox was completely shattered underneath. Coupled with the rubber pipes' condition I am surprised I did not face more trouble with the car. Thanks to all that have helped with parts, advise, support and a good word. I have now lost my fear of dropping the engine, and am planing my next project which will be a G50 conversion.
