Californias 11-99 foundation. No more speeding tickets?
A friend recently made a $1500 contribution for a lifetime membership in the 11-99 club. (11-99) is CHP code for Officer in Distress. The foundation supports California Highway Patrol widows and orphans.
When you join, you get a distinctive 11-99 license plate frame and a leather drivers license wallet that contains a gold metal CHP shield that identifies you as an 11-99 foundation donor. Well, my friend is now happily speeding his butt off all over the state. He says the CHP will chase him down, then pass him and wave after they notice his 11-99 license frame. ( Mind you, I doubt my friend is driving dangerously or at outrageous speeds.) Has anyone heard of this foundation?

Oh really....
Try doing 95+ mph on a California Hwy and you'll be callin your lawyer for bail....BTW, this is old news. Of course, if you have your pregnant wife in the car w/o the donation ( $1500) you would get the same results......Good luck...

This is related to my "rent-a-cute-5-year-old" business that was hatched after we won our new house and avoided a bidding war because our son charmed the socks off the listing agent ("gee, look at the catepillar I found in the back yard!") |

People are so gullible. Does anyone really think a hokey billfold and plate frame would stop a cop from writing a ticket to someone who really deserves it. C'mon, give those guys credit. They are trained to see right through a pile of Bravo Sierra.

I notice that, at least so far, Michael is conspicuously absent from this string.

I've heard of that, its been around for a while, but I've always wondered how effective it is.
I would guess that the answer lies in the middle somewhere. I'm sure if you're caught doing 120, its not going to save you. On the other hand, if you get spotted or pulled over for borderline behavior, I would think that the 11-99 gear couldn't hurt . . . |

I have a buddy who is an out-of-control speed addict. He has 11-99 frames on his Audi TT, Ducati 996, BMW 1200RS and his Hog. Swears by them. Always telling me how they save his butt. Obviously, if you are WAY over the speed limit, and conditions are not ideal, you're going to get a ticket. But, if you're cruising along at 80 in a 65, the 11-99 plates will save you a lot of money.

I support donnations to such funds, but hate how this can "buy" the law: it's wrong. But it's not unknown for the for the Police, and the law, to be bought....

This is sad to admit, but money can buy you anything in this country. Folks are not equal in front of justice, and I have no doubt that the donation to the cops stuff really works. Put a radar detector on top of that and a good lawyer, and you will be totally out of trouble. It is all about money...the more you have, the more you are free to break the law...talk about democracy, liberty and equality ! I laugh out loud...As french writer Rabelais said, laws are web networks that only catch the little butterflies and mosquitoes, letting the big bugs break them and fly away ! I figure a pedophile priest doing 140 mph in his black on black 911 turbo because he is late to the sex orgy where he will meet his friends judges and lawyers, and you got the picture !

Hey guys, perhaps we're being a bit too sarcastic here. I mean, O.J. is still out there, hunting for the REAL killer....isn't he?

Oh yeah!
Chuck Moreland, RoninLB, & I had this discussion over lunch the other day. To get 90% of my speeding urges out of my system, I go to the track. I know most of the local Peace officers in the area i live in, because we work together a lot. Most of them take offense to people who try to use things like the 11-99 or the KA 4993 liscense plate frames, and they aren't law enforcement personnel. Silly question, but why do people have Firefighter, etc. on their license plates?
Is it something you've got to have? Obviously, I see it a lot in the US, but in the UK number plates don't have stuff like that on, and neither do the Police, or any services, have Government, or City plates; just standard ones - which you get made up in any car accessory shop, they don't get issued by the State/County, but they have to reflect the car number, of course. |

11-99 frames are very popular with the Ferrari crowd. At last year's Festival Italiono in Carmel Valley (about 500+ cars) a large number sported these frames.
