930 smog pump belt
I'm in the process of replacing the smog pump belt on a 87 930. I've pulled off the intercooler and air box to access the pump. I'm still not sure how to access the lower pulley. Looking at the factory workshop manual, it appears that the oil pump has to be removed to access the cover. I can't believe it's that complicated. Any guidance would be appreciated.
Thanks, Steve ![]() |

It's a pain, it runs off the left camshaft. You need to remove part of the housing to be able to get the belt out. I changed the seals while I had it off, you might want to replace them.
Just be methodical.

What the others have said....
I'm not sure where you are located (emmissions), but now is the time to think about how much this little "band aide" really adds to your Porsche experience - in other words, if you can dump this *****...DO IT! I can post some helpful threads that will guide you in the removal, if you like. Jeff

In addition, before I removed all of the smog equipment on my '87, I ran with the air injection belt disconneted (I cut it) for a couple of months with no troubles.

This is the only intallation forum I can find
I know this link is pretty old...I am just wondering, how did you access that lower pully? I am thinking of taking the wheel off and going that way, or from under. Or did you get in there from above, by taken out the intercooler likeyou said? Could use a tip or two.
thanks. Paco another California 930 owner |
