Rear Tunnel Cover
My 71 has a 'vented' rear tunnel cover. There is a piece of heavy felt/insulation below it and blocking the vents. My parts book shows 2 covers: the standard cover and an "optional" cover for "additional heating". I'm guessing the felt material isn't standard and was added by the PO, maybe to reduce noise? So was the 'standard' cover solid and the optional cover vented with no insulation? Thanks. -- Curt

Almost every early 911 I've seen had the vented cover, even though very few 911's had the Webasto heater. And you are right, the vent was for the heater. Doesn't matter in the least if the "vents" in the cover are covered up, unless of course you have and use the heater. Later 911's did away with the vents.

The rear vent peice ,the underside peice is a factory install,we have an early Porsche in the shop and it had the original carpets in it and the peice had a cover over it.

As a note, my '73.5 T has a solid cover, i.e., no vents....
