OK, some more questions for the group.
We've figured out that the DME is likely using the wrong set of maps at the moment. Pin 54 is the Ignition map selector pin, giving either RoW, USA, or M150 (Motorsport) depending on whether it is open, grounded, or fitted with a 1K ohm resistor, respectively. We would like to play with this pin to see if we can have the DME select different ignition maps. There is supposed to be a 2 wire mini-harness near the DME plug which allows you to jumper this pin, but I don't see it on my car. Perhaps it was removed at some point? Can someone provide me with the color of the wire in the 993 harness? Here's what the area near my plug looks like...lots of splices as the harness is likely made up of 964 and 993 parts. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1342469644.jpg Also I'm trying to ID other connectors near the DME. Here's the layout: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1342469664.jpg Plug one branches off from the main harness leading to the DME (top of picture). You can't see it but there is another harness that exits the connector on the left and runs forward in the car. Plug 2 has wires that meet with the harness for plug 1 and run forward. The harness on the RIGHT exits and goes to the relay (4). Strangely enough there is another wire exiting the bottom of the relay, that then goes into the smoothly covered black wire that is zip-tied to the main harness heading back into the engine bay. The wire is brown, so I'm thinking ground?? It also goes back into the engine bay, and then it's just zip-tied off and not in use. So I think (???) it must have had something to do with when the car was a turbo? But what is this relay doing hooked up to plug 2? confused. I do know that when I undo plug 2, the car won't start. And I don't believe the fuel pumps are being turned on. Also, on the center console, there is a large, illuminated red button that gets illuminated ONLY when the car is running and when it is in the "out" position. With plug 2 pulled, it doesn't light. I think maybe this was set up to control the relay. Hard to hear if the relay clicks or not because its so loud when the motor is running. Part/plug 3 is part of the ignition system if I see things correctly. The wire exiting it feeds into the harness going to the engine bay, and there's also a ground wire. Plug 5 has more wires from the main engine bay harness on the connector, and then the plug harness/wires loop around and goes into the bottom of the relay. |
