964 Turbo (Dan Jacobs vs Franz Blam Racing vs ?)

Hello Guys,

I have now owned my '91 964 Turbo for almost 10 years and I have been thinking about having one of the 964 model specific master mechanic to go over the car for me?

I am pretty dead set on making the trip (KY>CT>KY) for Danial Jacobs (Hairy Dog Garage) but Franz Blam racing (FBR) keeps popping up on the radar :)

I am pretty familiar with Dan Jacobs reputation when it comes to 964's but do you think FBR has the same reputation and respect among the Porsche guys ?

Does any one else has any recommendation for any other good 964 familiar shop in the Midwest around KY ?

Thanks

I've not heard about Dan Jacobs but I know about Franz Blam. He's a legend.

While I'm sure that Franz B. is a great choice, I'd trek on up to Dan J's shop in Ct.;)

I am looking for a shop that specialzes in 964 Turbos and if you know a good one then lets post it here ;)

On a side note, is any one familiar with Dr Robert Stephenson in Kennsaw, GA ? Please PM the info if you know him.

Thanks

If you are going to ship it that far what about ....TRE or Callis Rennsport? There is another one in CA who knows the turbo air cooled late cars but i cant think of his name - has an add with real high end race cars in AutoWeek all the time. IS FB an expert in 964s? I had not heard that but I would have no reason to know it.

I guess shops claim to specialize in subsets if the 911 family, actually I know they do

Dan J is a fantastic shop,

You do have do drive by our shop to get to Dans..... Bill knows a fair bit about these cars as well

Howdy Yasir,

patwilliamsracing.com, memphis tn, restored, modified, raced and converted them to EFI without drilling a hole or changing anything that could not be returned to stock. Currently maintains high mileage examples of daily drivers and machines shipped in from out of state.

964 Turbos are handsome and sleek machines with the introduction of end cap bodywork but they are also the beginning of increasingly complex 911's for which age has not been kind - electronics, underhood plastic components and heat.

I don't have a 964, but I don't let any one other than Dan touch my car any more.
His is a family run organization and the same crew of people work there now as when I first took my car there.
There are shops closer to me, but when I talk to Dan, or his son Baron I always get a straight answer and the work is always done to a high standard and quickly.

Is it due to cost you are saying this or are FB not as talented as some claim?

I am looking for someone to rebuild my 3.2 to 3.4 and FB were recomended although I haven't been to see them yet.

What specifically are you wanting done to the car?

Tippy 07-05-2012 07:07 AM

These cars aren't that complicated......

yasir 07-05-2012 07:22 AM

There's a slight engine oil drip that I would like to be looked at ? Besides, I want some one who is pretty familiar( some one who has worked and who has driven these cars) to look and drive it to see if it is what it should be :D

I am sick and tired of taking it to Porsche mechanics (3) as I always come back wishing I had not taken it to that shop

I want a 964 Turbo familiar shop not some one that claims to be a Porsche master mechanic or claims to know these cars and yet are unable to take care of the buisness or leave the job half done.

Nothing personal to any one here but if there's a shop that are familiar with these cars please feel free to PM me.

Thanks

I guess that leaves all of us with very long drives! These cars are certainly simpler than 996 on. I don't think that there is probably at least one very competent shop close to everyone. I know I have one here. Saves me a long drive.
