Rob, I have a new 4-direction switch if you need one. I purchased a new one only to find that the one in the car was fine. Parts supplier had a no-return policy on electrical stuff in that price range.

Don, both my motors (two one each mirror) activate a small nylon gear. Looks like they may be interchangeable. I had one out and it is a bit difficult to re-assemble. I've still got two mirrors that go up and down only, not in and out.

Chuck,

What style are your mirrors ? The three bayonet style or the rotate ring style ?

The rotate ring one I aquired also has two white nylon gears. Both appear to have been damaged.

I have not "aquired " a large enough inventory of mirror motors to correctly guess that the bayonet style mirror uses one style motor drive while rotating ring style uses another.

But they are fun to fool with.

It would be interesting if I could source out a place to purchase replacement nylon gears, motors, and , brake clutches.

dont have a brown wire

I have an ongoing issue.. I read your helpful post but I do not have a brown wire..blk / blue /white /yellow.

I can not get the mirrors to tilt when on the car.

I get them to tilt by connecting to a 12 trans.

off the car:

I connected:
Blk / Yell on neg - Blue / White on pos and mirror moved side to side

reversed trans and they moved the opposite direction

Then connected:

Blk / White on pos - Yell /Blue on neg and it tilted.

One the car it does not tilt! Any direction I move the mirror switch mirrors only move sis to side, never tilt.

I did buy a new switch

Any ideas what it could be??

and do I have the wire color combinations correct when testing?..hate to burn out another diode.

From your thread it seems like you tested it correctly. But just in case, you should have 6 wires to the plug. Two wires are to the heater, so you can ignore them. Two wires each go to the motor and the clutch. If I remember correctly, a white and a brown wire go to the clutch. The motor wires are black/yellow and black/violet (?). Ground one of the motor wires and put 12 Volts on the other. It should move (if it's not broken, that is). Reverse the ground and voltage and it should move the other direction. For side to side (or up/down, I can't remember), ground the brown wire and apply 12V to the white (you will hear the clutch ingage) while performing the above with the motor wires.
That should tell you if the motor is working.

You posted this to a very old thread from 2002 but if you look at the picture you can see two wires go to the solenoid and 2 to the motor. The solenoid controls tilt. You dont say if one or both mirrors are doing the same thing. The circuit goes from the selector switch on the dash dash to the drivers door switch and mirror and then, through the trunk, to the pasenger side mirror. I lost tilt on my car. It was a broken black wire in the drivers door where it goes back into the trunk.
