Gear selection difficult when under way

Hi guys - I'm going to re-bush the shifter, use one of Ed's Couplers (who has been fantastic to deal with BTW) and install a Seine kit but until all that happens I think I have another issue to deal with.

I adjusted the existing coupler yesterday and the shift quality improved. At a stop I can get all the gears cleanly, and just running around the neighborhood on a flat surface she shifts better. When I went for a more spirited drive getting 1st and 2nd cleanly was difficult.

The coupler linkage is tight.

I'm thinking this is the engine and transmission mounts letting the things move around. Sound right? Other ideas?

Maybe it was me, but about a year after I did the shifter bushing I installed the aftermarket G50 trans mounts and I detected a slight improvement in shifting. Noise was a little higher, but shifting was a tad easier.

I guessed it had something to do with the overall alignment, and while I didn't see much posted on that theory, I do think it contributed. I did the engine mounts a few months later but I didn't notice any change.

1st to 2nd is pretty notchey on mine. sometimes it slides right in ....other times have to reef on it
before it goes in. Try double clutching it.....works good for me.

Hi guys - thanks for the notes. Best wishes for a good 4th.

I'll take some additional NVH in return for not having to fight getting into gear any day of the week. The only variable that I can see is the engine/trans moving around enough to change the relationship of shift mechanism to the gearbox.

Double clutching helps sometime, but after speed bumps or impacts taken at speed it feels like I have trouble getting into 1/2 gear plane.

Is there another possible cause I am missing?

Wait until you get the new coupler in there along with the bushing, etc. Those will help like you would not believe. Don't forget to install a new ball cup bushing and the bushing right under the shifter where the shift rod slides into. Have you drained the fluid and switched to Kendall? After that, install wevo motor/trans mounts.
What year is your car?
