901/22
Hello everybody,
I have my eyes set upon a sad 67 with a 901/06 engine. 1) I would like to know if it's possible to turn the 901/06 case into a 901 /22 engine? I'm imagining not but the displacement bore x stroke is the same 1991cc. ![]() 2) If not, what would be the most powerful engine you can build with the 901/06 case? ![]() Thanks Orlando

You want to build your engine to 906 specs? I don't see why not. With enough money of course...
You could also build a 2.5 engine, with MORE power.

Hello DaveE
Actually what I would like to know more about is the 911 R engine. What I want to know is what modifications are to be done. first to the case, then cyl, pistons, cams, distributor to make it work, I imagine there's more to be done to the case and inside the case (for ex. oil pump?). I'm hoping someone can educate me. Take care

Didn't they use a funky cam and cam tower with a special oil system?

I don't really know, maybe. What I'm sure of is that if they used the same cases as in regular production cars, they had to be modified to deal with additional stress and heat. I want to know how?
Can this be done to a regular 901/06 case? I guess is like DaveE said, it's just a matter of money.

It can be done, but finding/buying all the correct components will be expen$ive.
Wild cams, big valve/port heads, to be correct 2 ring high dome 81mm pistons. Chromal cylinders. Titanium rods, 46IDA Webers (or MFI for 906E). Also unobtainium is the correct counter weighted crank. Original 906 was built on magnesium case IIRC, so to answer your question your 901/06 case will be strong enough. If you go down that road I'm sure Henry could help you, here's his current 906 build: Saving a 906 andy |

Hello ajwans,
Thanks I get it, so if a 911R engine is for the super rich or race cars, what would be the best hp upgrade for such a case while keeping it in the regular mortal human being scale. How about a 2.4 S spec engine, can that be done easier, I mean with regular production parts, it's an engine that puts out 190 pony's, that should be fun in a SWB chassis. Anyway thanks for helping me out Take care

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() If you want to build a 910/22 you will need some Ti Rods, a 906 Crank (just making a replica now) Lightened Flywheel, Twin Plug heads, Marelli S121 Twin Plug Dizzy with 4 x sets of points, semi-transistorised ignition, solid rockers, High Compression Pistons, 906 cams and a small fan housing and fan or the Marelli dizzy won't fit. I have most of the parts and the rockers are currently being forged. I still need the rods and fan housing but I do have a fan and a small diameter shroud. |

Hello chris_seven
So that's the stuff the gods are made of, all right, good for you. Can you give me a price bracket to build such beauty, I have no idea how much are we talking about. Like 30K? Take care, Orlando

I can easily see it costing $30k. But I have been colelcting the parts for about 4 years to reduce the impact.
Once the crank is ready we will start on the bottom end assemby. |

Orlando, doable but questionable depending on your application.
I run super developed 2 liter engines which make more power (and more reliably) than a 906 engine but we measure the intervals on this in hours and not miles (80-100 hr intervals if you don't make a mistake). I know who can help you (look here: 901 Shop ). And I have access to the cranks right now (not cheap but all prior issues and design flaws have been corrected). Cost varies on what you have already or not and how crazy you want to go.
