Angry UPS LOST my new gearbox!

It appears that UPS has lost my gearbox.

It was supposed to arrive yesterday. When it didn't, I went up to the UPS depot and asked them to track it.... well, it appears to be "out for delivery"... in FRIGGIN' RENO!!!!!!!!!!
http://wwwapps.ups.com/etracking/tracking.cgi?tracknums_displayed=5&TypeOfInquiryNumber=T&HTMLVersion=4.0&InquiryNumber1=1z90e2880341711756&InquiryNumber2=&InquiryNumber3=&InquiryNumber4=&InquiryNumber5=&track=Track

Well isn't this peachy...
I called the 1-800 UPS number and the guy asks me... "What's the problem... it's out for delivery"... and I say... "yeah in Reno..." And he says "yup... Reno"... And I scream, well that would be damn near terrific if I didn't live in IDAHO!"

So, UPS doesn't know where it is, they're telling me to contact the sender and have them put a "Tracer" on it.... we'll see how well this works.

Man, I wanted to have her back together by Sunday too!

Looks like it's time to "Go Postal", Lee

Geez, I hope they find it. If not, you could claim it was a close ratio 915, with 7:37 (not a typo) gears and short shift!

Come to think of it...I've got a shipment of cigars that's overdue from them too!
Just think of what may have happened if the Post Office was involved........

Good luck dealing with UPS. You're about to enter a whole new world of frustration.

Porsche Crest UPS

Leland,

Sorry to hear this. I had a similar situation with a complete MFI system that I bought. The problem is that UPS will not even respond to YOU because their contract of carriage is with the SELLER. So I would forward all the information you can to the Seller and request that a tracer be put on. Hopefully the seller insured the package. My experience- it took about three months for UPS to conclude that my package had disappeared into thin air and to pay out on the insurance claim. Patience and persistence are your best weapons here.

Somebody is out there, assembling a complete 911- with MFI and a 915 gearbox, with parts stolen from UPS!

Actually, I did get the pump and the stacks- from a '69 E that was being cut up for scrap. But the heart of the machine lives on, and will howl its Wagnerian anvil chorus from the body of a new machine someday! MFIWDP!

Leland, don't rely too heavily on the UPS Detail Tracking web site... is very well known not to be the most accurate thing around.. especially if the first entry is (like in your case) 'Billing Information Received'....

The 'Ship To' seems correct and the status still 'In Transit'.. give them another day.

In any case have the 'shipper' to put a trace on the package.

Good luck.

Leland - don't panic! I bet it will be delivered today. Don't go by what you see in the 'details' area.
Good luck-

What Jordi said.

I ordered something from the east coast, and according to their online tracking, it sat in Cleveland for over a week, When it was actually in transit, and it was delivered the day it was expected.. Turns out it didn't get scanned along the way.

The tracking info looked like this:

May 1 2000, Arrival Scan, Cleveland hub
May 9 2000, Delivered, Fremont CA.

Ain't that the truth! I worked for them for 3 years. On the bright side, they seem to ship along some very strange routes. What may appear longer is actually faster. The probelm is the heavy weight and delivery vehicle they have to use. This isn't a package they can just toss on the big brown package cars.

Wait a sec' while I pick up the brain cells that flew out my ears halfway down the page, geez Daryl! my heart....

breathing (somewhat) easy again....

You can too, Leland. that page looks a lot like some UPS status logs that have given me anxiety in the past, but never any real problems.

(man, I've never done a "save image" so fast in my life!)

Lee, it's highly unlikely they have really "lost" your gearbox. And if they have? UPS will have to buy you a new one. AND Carey & I both know where you should go for that. Be sure and talk to one of us if the worst comes true.

It's not like they'll forget it................... The SOB is all one guy can do to pick up. Everyone that touched it, should remember it.

It will be there today ...................

Cary? Apologies for the misspelling of your name. Gee, if they lost it completely, do you have a place in mind that could build Leland's replacement?

Paul, I can see the twinkle in his eye already.

But hopefully it won't come to that.

As for the spelling of the name, no big deal. I've been going thru it my whole life. Doesn't even phase me.

Planter...where did you find that pic? I checked UPS' website, and I don't think she's an employee.
