Hand brake, E brake, does this look right?
Hi,
I'm putting my trailing arms back together on my 1973 Targa. Somehow the assembly doesnt look right. I thought the nuts were supposed to be one on each side of the plastic clamp on the trailing arm, but this is how it looks on the car: ![]() ![]() It is half an inch off on one side, and almost an inch off on the other. Is this really right? I have new hand brake wires, but forgot to order the tubes so I used the ones from my 1970 T Coupé. Does the assembly differ between 1970 and 1973? Any advice would be very appreciated. Regards, Johan

The bracket on your trailing arm should have a c shaped opening on it for the metal nose piece to fit into. the two nuts are for adjustment and stay towards the middle of the car.

Thanks,
Yes, they are C shaped, maybe not as C shaped as new ones, but anyway. So, the nuts shoud not be on each side of the C clamp? I thought they had to, to keep the wire from touching the cv shaft. Regards, Johan

no the nose piece fits into the c bracket and the nuts are both on one side. It's hard to see with my wheel on but I would assume the steel nose piece is trapped to provide the counter. one nut probably adjusts and the other is to keep the adjustment hold that nut in place.

you can see your nose piece has a shoulder but since your bracket is worn away it won't hold it.

Hi guys,
thanks, excellent advice! I managed to get it together now, and it works great. But, to get it good I need new c-clamps as you said. Regards, Johan

those nuts adjust the tension on the hand brake line so that each side pulls equally when you use the brake. one is a locknut and the other adjusts the length. there's a tech article on host site which explains the procedure.
