Ticked off neighbors about my Porsche

Just got this letter today. No one ever said anything about my car until I got this letter. Its really not that loud but you know how these things sound. Thinking about taking it down to the local station have leo give me his opinion?

What do you think? I really don't want to get in a battle over this. I do have a better muffler I can put on it I guess.

Is it really that loud or are you surrounded by jealous a-holes?

You've got to be kidding me Not even enough guts to sign the letter ....

Maybe you should host a Porsche get together at the house - I'll bring my '71 with all 3 pipes uncorked. 7am Sunday morning would be a nice time

I would think if they enough signatures and send it to the police, then the police might be forced to take some action. You may want to call the police to find out what type of limits or restrictions exit - state and local, if you don't already know, so you are in compliance.

As long as you are in compliance with ordinances, you should be good. If it still bothers them after that, it would just depend on how much you care what they think.

I used to drive my 911 to the BART station which was only two miles away. My mechanic suggested that I start the car in the garage and let it idle to warm up while I had my morning coffee and paper.

One day I decided to take the day off and sleep in. When I went out to get the paper I saw my next door neighbor rushing out and he asked me what the hell happened. It turns out he had been using my start up as his alarm clock.

At least the letter contains polite language. It doesn't sound like they're being jerks about it. If it were directed at me, I would do as you suggest and get the opinion of the local leos, before they come to you.

Do the right thing and put a quieter muffler on. . . .

Personally I would take their concerns and act on them.

Why perpetuate the impression that you (and the rest of us P car owners by default) are an ass, and don't care about how loud your car is and how annoying to others it is?

I didn't realize my Bursch muffler was so loud it was bugging my neighbors until I switched to stock (the Bursch was on my car when I bought it). After the switch one of them said, very nicely, "I'm glad you fixed your car. It was awfully loud." This was the deaf 85 year old lady (who is super cool by the way) who lives across the street. . . No need to piss her off, she's a sweetheart. But if she could hear it, the rest of the folks probably really were finding it obnoxious.

Good luck with this. But I sure know what I'd do.

If they don't have the brave to sign that letter, where will they find it to sign a pettition? Maybe put the other muffler on if you think. I live in a condo compound and some of my cars have been pretty loud but I idle in and out in the mornings. Never had a complaint.

if the leos think your ok maybe as part of the "study" they can escort you from the station to home. one in front, one in rear... you know... so they can hear how loud it is in a neighborhood environment. then you can all park out front of your house with it running and chat about what their recommendations are... send a message to your assh*le neighbors. If they think your too loud, Id get a Dansk Sport 2 in - 1 out, or something similar. It doesnt really kill the performance and ist too loud.

I know my 911 is loud and a menace to society. For that reason I take it easy until I'm clear of my neighborhood (the poor saps in other parts of town have no idea where I live). IMO, staying on good terms with neighbors is a very good thing...never know when you're going to need a hand.

I wonder if these people chase down every Harley they see. With the loudest exhaust, bar racing stuff, I don`t think you can get that loud.
I would get it checked and if within the Db levels, Screw them.
The Gestapo here test you going 35 MPH.

The muffler is one of Ben's prototypes to fit the B&B headers. It does rumble but I have heard it as its driving by and didn't think it was that bad. Not as bad as the barking dogs in the neighborhood! I do have some inserts I can stuff in the tail pipes to muffle it down a bit but not much.
