What is this thing for?

I'm recovering the interior side panels in the back seat (to match the other trim work).

What is this thing for? It looks like it's maybe a stop and it has a slot in the bottom.

Just trying to figure out if it needs to go back in.

I deleted the back seats so just wondering if it has something to do with that.

i've often wondered myself what that was for. my 83SC has the same thing, but it also has the pass-through for the seatbelt, something that panel seems to be missing.

You can stick the seat belt buckle in there while loading passengers or luggage. Keeps the belt out of the way.

Mine is there, it's just oriented vertically instead of horizontally so you can't see it in the picture. Must be a difference between the coupe and targa.
