Alternator Light question

Hi, this is really strange, I replaced the alternator and voltage regulator on my 72 T today.

I reconnected everything, checked all connections on the back of the alternator and VR. Used my wiring diagram to be sure!

When I went to reconnect the battery, even thou the key was not in the ignition, the ignition light is on. Remember no key in ignition and car not running.

I double checked everything again so I went to start it (wasnt sure this was a good idea) but when I turned the key, the light goes out, engine starts. Alternator and VR working as expected. Battery voltage while running at between 13 and 14.2.

What have I done wrong? Any ideas.

What alt. did you put in?
Does the new one have a built in regulator?

No it doesnt it has an external regulator.

Its a Paris Rhone (Valeo) with its external regulator (70 amp version)
The alternator and regulator were tested on the bench together to make sure they worked. The output was about 14.2 V max. On the road, at idle, the output at the battery was between 13.0 to 14.5.

It seems that they do on the car as well.

I've got to check the wiring again on the back. I checked but I will check again.

The part number on the alternator was 208-612.

Any idea's before i take things apart again. Dont understand why the light is on other than it grounding.
