what does this button do?
yes it works neat but $2925.00 is a little steep. But it most likely will be the cost of an aftermarket exhaust
Wonder how they can do that? Most states make cutouts illegal AND new cars have Federal dba limits.
$3k is a great price for the Poseur P crowd
it does shut off after you turn the car off so you must activate it every time, that might be a way around the rules. not that much louder, just more raspy.

Probably like the z06's that have a valve the opens at above 3k on the stock exhaust.
On the z06 if you want it to stay open all you have to do is remove the fuse for the valves. |
My friends 996 has a sport muffler with this same effect - however, on the 996 it's a manual change in the engine compartment. On the 997, it' an electronic button on the dash.
Basically, there is a dashpot on the exhaust that moves a flap within the muffler. When engaged, more exhaust is routed out the pipe and not thru the baffle chambers. It really makes a big difference in the sound. I think that this system is automatically activated when you are at full throttle and the flapper returns to closed when under a certain rpm. However, when the button is pushed it is activated all the time. Listen to a 997 with and without the sport exhaust and most people would go for the sport exhaust. Having a button to automatically quite down the car (like for when leaving for work at 6:00 am) is a nice option. The $3k i not for the button but for they whole sport exhaust option. |
