Carrera idle issue...and yes I searched!

Perhaps I read to many threads and am a little confused. Yesterday idle started acting up. After it was warmed up, idle suddenly went to 2000 RPM and sometimes down to 1200 RPM. I could bring it back to normal by pulling on the gas pedal. I checked and lubed everything I could from the pedal linkage to the engine including the transmission linkages with no success. No apparent binding or bent components.

You would assume that this is a mechanical issue but when the idle microswitch connector is pulled, the idle remains constant when it should increase per the threads I have read. So, the question is: Could this be microswitch issue even though it appears to be a sticking linkage problem? I can't see how the 2 issues can be related.

Once at ~800-880, if you then disconnect the idle microswitch connector, the idle should rise.

If you're at 1200-2000, you may not notice any change. Maybe there is carbon buildup in the ICV and throttle butterfly?

I should have been clearer. Yes I was at 900 RPM when I disconnected microswitch with no increase in RPM.

Sometimes tapping the icv will Release a blockage if there is One. If this Works then you will know it Needs Clearing. In the icv there is a Metal Pin which with Age can Stick. Been there done that

You can do a continuity test at the plug to determine if it works or not. There is also a adjustment on it. It should click at the last degree of the throttle closing.

If adjustment is ok and the switch is determined faulty, I have a used one that was only used for testing if you want at a good fellow Pelican price. PM if interested. :)

take the 5-10 easy minutes to check your throttle linkage where it connects to your tranny housing. Hotter weather usually makes this a common problem area, and all it needs is a good cleaning and re-lube.

Further checks on idle position switch: No continuity with throttle closed. As mentioned no RPM increase when harness disconnected.

Checked full throttle switch: Had continuity with throttle fully open. I could not here a clicking noise however even with stethoscope.

Question: If the problem is with the idle positiion switch, how can lifting up on the gas pedal bring idle back to normal?? What is the connection between the two if there is one??

I should also mention that when first starting the car in the morning, it idlles very poorly and will stall. After a minute or so it idles OK. This has been a problem for sometime. The high idle(2000 RPM) after it is warm only started 2 days ago.

Check adjustment of idle switch or did I miss that?
