I broke my 8 post fuse box :( Can this be repaired (w photo)?
Grrrrr.
First off thanks for the help on the new battery from my other thread. I picked it up tonight and was maneuvering it into place when I heard a tinkling sound....which was 8 fuses falling down to the bottom of the trunk :(. I had the fuse box panel off from checking my no-start problem yesterday, and bumped the fuse box w/ the corner of the battery. Brilliant... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1341883289.jpg Do you think this can be expoxied, or repaired in another manner? It looks like a clean snap on both ends and in between each fuse. And if not, the one our host sells says it's for a 78-89....and my car is a 76. Will it work? One friggin thing leads to another, eh? |
I've had this happen to me. Might have been with the 10-post fuse block, though. I replaced the broken one with a new one from our host, but I also took the broken one and "glued" it back together with some sort of fiberglass putty-like stuff my neighbor had. I haven't tried out the repaired one, but it feels pretty well stuck together.

Noah - misery loves company I guess.... :)
I wire tied mine w/ 2 long wire ties - it works, at least while the car is sitting in the garage. I didn't want to go to bed having installed the new battery and not trying to start it. It started fine, and I turned on all the lights/fogs etc that are serviced by the 8 post box and they all work. It seems tight, but I'm not confident this is a good long term solution. So the big question is, will the 78-89 8 post work on my 76? Is that the broken 10 post from your 87? It sure looks like my 8 post. I also thought about trying some 2-part JB Weld adhesive. I used it on another project and it seems like some strong stuff....$5 fix over a $90 fix.... |
On the one hand I would think that would epoxy (JB Weld) just fine. On the other hand, its breakage indicates that it's brittle, and it may be just a matter of time before it happens again, not necessarily when sitting conveniently in your garage. For under $100 it's probably worth replacing.

Dave,
Your fix will probably do the trick. if not or you just want an unbroken one, I have an 8 post or two in my stash. Part number 911.612.087.01 which will fit 74-89. I'd let one of them go for $25 shipped (USPS Priority). If you're interested, pm me with your email and I'll email you a pic or two. regards, Al |

I think this sort of failure is an argument for spending the money for Fred Cook's ATO fuse panel replacement. Just one of the arguments. :)
|
+1 on upgrading to the ATO fuse panel from Fred Cook! I did this in my Carrera and it was an easy swap.
