Old style RSR rims

Are there any replicas of these rims and the centerlock hubs available? [This message has been edited by orbmedia (edited 08-05-2001).] |
Last call. Anyone? Would these be interesting to anyone if I could have replicas built by a custom wheel maker? Not necessarily magnesium, but the same look? They would take some huge tires.

Autofarm in England have some of these (original), but the are in the "If you have to ask, you can't afford them" price category. Besides, being Magnesuim and about 25-30 years old, I wouldn't trust them on a supermarket caddie ;-))

George,
I know real ones are very rare and very expensive. I wouldn't be surprised if they wanted $2K apiece. That's great if you're restoring a real RSR and you wanted it to be all original. What I propose is a replica set. Maybe made of an aluminum cast center and welded to an aluminum spun outer rim. Then powder coated or painted black. Must be good enough for racing use. If there is any interest I'd inquire about having some sets built up by a reputable custom wheel maker. Sizes probably 15" diameter and 9", 11" and 14" wide. Centerlock would require special hubs to be made up too. |
Orb,
I'd be very interested in this project. Do you propose to do a 5 lug adaptation? I really don't have any use for centerlocks, and the added expense of the conversion would not be justifiable for me. Getting a big huge set for track use would be realllly nice. Powder coat in GP Blue, or satin black...I'm salivating! -d ------------------ Dave 1972 911T (E motor) RSR replica project http://members.nbci.com/dtwinters/garage/ |
If it looks feasible to do a project like this then I'll investigate the idea of making a 5 bolt version. It might be hard to do that and keep the vintage "look".

On the flipside, Orb, I know that the RSR centerlock hubs are rare as hens' teeth and are in the kilo-$$$ region. But what are the possibilities of machining replicas? What associated parts would need to be adapted or changed? It just sounds overly complicated- or am I the only person out there without centerlocks http://www.pelicanparts.com/ultimate/biggrin.gif

When you figure out how to do it, count me in on a set of 14's/11's or 11's/9's...whichever you decide on. I think the market will support the mold/casting investment. I'll even consider investing int the castings.
