Cool Boxed Boxster S (long)...

So I'm cruising along the quiet FWY at around 100kph/60mph minding my own business, trying to listen to some soulful R&B track (a futile attempt with the rumble of that twin tipped 930 exhaust right behind your ear), when I notice a pair of bright headlights come speeding up behind me.

I think nothing of it, just that this guy is obviously in a rush, so I courteously move over to allow him pass. Anyway, he has the 'nads' to put his anchors on and sit by my side, probably just to make sure I'd notice him in his new bright yellow 2001/2002 Boxster S.

Anyway, he sits there for 5 seconds or so and then plants it, accelerating briskly away.

So, I think to myself "Is this guy fer real or WHAT?", so I humour him, drop it down to 2nd, put the pedal to the medal and quickly up-change to third. In a few seconds, I catch up to him and sit by HIS side this time. I look over at him and he won't make eye contact (probably in utter shock that I've caught up to him so quick), so I squeeze the throttle and pull away effortlessly. I can see him struggle to pursue in my rear view mirror. He's obviously no match, so I slow down and think, "hmmm, that's the end of it! The guy has been put in his place."

BUT NO, he comes up next to me AGAIN, sits by my side and does the same thing, accelerates off

BTW, I admire his cockiness after just receiving a severe waxing

This guy wanted SO bad to beat me in a top end battle, so I think "OK, one more time and that's it! He's GOTTA get the message the 2nd time round!".

I wait a few seconds, give him a head-start so he'll gain a bit of distance and then I'll move in for the kill. At this point, he's moved into MY lane and is easily 7 or so car lengths ahead, which I think is ample enough time for him to enjoy his little victory Prematurely I might add

I drop it down to 3rd and plant it. He sees me coming up fast behind him so he moves over for me and continues to accelerate. In a few seconds, I'm deep into third and up-change to 4th. The turbo is pulling relentlessly as the tacho needle swings ever so fast towards the magical 7200 redline. By the time I'm ready to change up to 5th, I notice Box-Man is way, WAY back in the distance. WHAT? I didn't even notice the yellow blur Mind you, everything at that speed is a blur

At this point, I approach my turn-off and go on my way, again cruising at a much saner speed, turning up the volume to some "Joe" R&B flava

Sorry, just HAD to put him in his place.

(P.S: Don't ask! I don't want to even think of what speed I hit during that episode).

Be thankful for a little Porsche-to-Porsche racing. I usually just have old ladies driving Buicks and teenagers driving Toyota Corollas and Nissan Sentras trying to race me.

Question Take a walk on the wild side.

Yeah? me too!
The other night between Pakenham and Berwick where the speed limits go up and down like a yoyo, I'm sitting in the fast lane, 3 over the limit and I rear view some turkey zooming up fast from way back, with his high beam on. He then sits on my tail so close he could sit in my lap! I move over and just as noses up to my window I see its a stock VK Commodore!! Galah! Give-me-a-break!!
I change back to third flick ahead and swap back into MY lane! I continued at MY speed in MY lane with him duckin' left n' right, backing off, speeding up onto my tail, over and over again, not able to pass me for other cars caught up in the slow lane next to me. I was deliberately letting these in, into my lane to avoid a laden slow Double B way up front. The limit drops to 90, then back to 80 and just as he moves over to a lane gap I indicate and do the same. Wrenching at his wheel! he tips back over and I let him past me. As he does we eyeball one another and?? ...fair dinkum??...... he was a SHE!?!
(so I quickly curl back my middle finger gesture) and off she roars to harass the next poor sole in "her" way!
The limit increases to 100, the traffic is now down to the two of us, her tail lights are a head start of maybe half a K. I change back to 3rd touching 5800 and flick into the slow lane and whoosh past as my Porsche straightens out a long fast outside lane sweep. I'm into 4th and she's way back now, no hope of catching me. My off ramp is approaching 2 klm ahead with another double B going pretty quick in the slow lane. I must resist here as I'm over the limit and I know where MR plod lurks just up ahead parked in the scrub. I slow up, level pegging the truckie. Sure enough, Commodore feline is rubbin' my tail, again!! (just didn't understand the lesson?) Harassing me, she just can't get past either of us, getting really agitated clawing away at her wheel.
The truckie must have sensed what was going on and gradually slowed .....as I did, matching it - smack on the speed limit. My off ramp was now just there in front on the opposite side of the truck.....so I waited ....waited..... then tipped into 2nd and blasted ahead of the truck switched lanes and juuuussst??..... phew! caught my off ramp, not ever seeing the Commodore feline still obscured by the truck in the adjacent lane, where we both were just a second or two before. As I ascended the ramp I could hear the truckie honk!-hoooonk! into the night as he too must have just then seen that in fact .....he was a raging SHE!?!

That dummy obviously doesnt know his porsche's. But know he knows the turbo is king. I dont think of my boxster as a fast car, I just like the styling, he will sooner or later have to make the same decision when he realizes its not a 911.

We just drove from Los Angles to Charlotte, NC in our “new” 1970 911E. We were stopped along the way by many P-car owners and waved to by all 911, 944 and 914 we passed. On the other hand, not a single Boxster waved / flashed lights or even acknowledged our presence on the road. There was one guy in a silver Boxster on I-5 when we were heading from the Bay area back to LA that when he passed us, refused to even glance my way so I could wave.

While I don’t want to paint all Boxster owners the same, I have come to the conclusion that Boxster owners are just a bunch of dilatants. Totally clueless about the car, the marque, and its history. How’s that for a little “whine and cheese”?

Sean - GREAT story! However, you didn't mention whether you got her number or not? bwahahahahah!

BigBpainta - Mr.Boxster had the following plates "APE-911" !!!
MAJOR identity crisis or what?

What a p!sser and a half! I think he got a 'real' dose of what '911' actually means

Prior to my turbo conversion, I ran against a Boxster (not S) and the guy was pretty cool about the fact that I smoked him and we had a casual chat after the run. Not all Boxster owners are like that, but most I come across won't give us 911 dudes the time of day

THIS guy on the other hand, just couldn't face the fact that a 12 year old 911 totally waxed his sorry punk a$$$ all over the Sth Eastern Arterial

911: There is NO substitute

As the owner of a 911 and a Boxster I can tell you the 911 is much faster (2.7) definetly a sweet car. On the other hand the Boxster handles much better. That I believe is the only thing I like better about the Boxster. If I had my druthers I would be driving a 993 today. But I must be patient, that day will come.

Until then I will enjoy both cars.

Guys? Give BigBpainta a break here...I do believe he's caught on to what this board is about... And for those of you who also visit the S registry board? Yeah, it was (kind-of) a set up. But so what? BS52 deserved a bit of "what goes around, comes around", dontcha think? One great flamer desrves hearing from someone with similar, perhaps even better, talents... From me? Welcome aboard, Brian!

Merv,

We have the same driveline. From memory, redline in 4th is about 200kph. You are a very naughty boy. And I get busted for 6 k's over the limit. Sheesh.

Don't underestimate the Boxter S. Check the lap times around Phillip Island compared to race prepped GT2's, GT3's etc. Just seconds between them on a long track. Scary huh?

G'Day Vic!

The Redline I'm talking about is the revised Protomotive one, which is 7200rpms. Probably takes me to 220-230 in 4th? Dunno, but it was rock steady and STILL pulling hard. The new CHIP supposedly takes me to around 299 if I redline 5th

I have no doubt that the Boxster S is a better handling car on the track due to its better weight distribution (especailly now that I've gained an extra 50kg's in turbo components), however, on a straight, forget it

Keeping in mind of course that a 78 or 79 930 would have probably done the same thing to him. Try forcing that spoonful down his throat!

Heheheheh...

Well, he did LOOK like a b!tch, so I decided to slap him like one

Nah, it was all in the name of fun. Mind you, if it were busy with traffic, I would have just let him go on his merry way and give him the satisfaction, but what the heck...

While not exactly a run-in with a Boxster, Matt Holcomb and I were convoy testing his new "gutted" Monty muffler. It's very loud. The Webster's dictionary describes it as follows...

(Convoy Testing)(n): Driving two 911s, side by side, with one car's new muffler pointing directly in the window of the other, and redlining it up and down through the gears for about 5 miles down a four lane carriageway...

When we'd gotten it out of our systems, we were driving home normally, when a very blonde, very attractive young girl in a black Boxster spotted us coming the other way. She was very keen to wave to the two mid-20s guys in yellow 911s. She seemed very pleased that we both smiled and waved back at her. I was please that a Boxster driver(owner?) had risen above the latte-swilling, Gucci-loafer mindset and acknowledged our humble, old, noisy, anscestral 2.7s.

I guess it's all about attitude.

Would that 'gutted' Monty be my old unit Adam

I wanna hear it now!

If I like it, I might gut my Mille-Miglia 930 twin tip. Actually, in a cab, probably NOT a good idea Then again, it would substantially reduce turbo spool up and increase HP slightly too

As I said, not ALL Boxster drivers have that latte-swilling, Gucci-loafer mindset, as you put it

Wink Box-Stir ;-)

And?.... Did ya do a "U"ee, Adam? Merv'd want her number!

I kinda like the Boxster S. What is it? - 3.6? On paper it'd go quicker and handle better than my old SC.
It's just that (aka Saab convertibles) I keep hearing that it's for the *hairdresser* set.
Huh? But my Targa always keeps *my* perm in place. I know cos, as *they* do, I now keep checking myself in the little sun visor mirror.

I dunno about the cow-coffee and Gucci loafers (is that like, Ug Boots?) but what's with all the Giorgio Armani silk gowns?
Me, in Stubbies and a black Yakka Singlet - so maybe that's why my waves are ignored.

Hahahaahah! U guys crack me up!

The Boxster S is a 3.4L I believe (250HP/184kW) with a 0-100 time around 5.9s I think.

Sean,

Stubbies, singlet, thick moustache... hmm. an Aussie Burt Reynolds??

Merv,

It's not your old one, StuartJ has that now... It's actually a 2-in, 1-out Monty, made for SSIs and it's been totally gutted. There's not a baffle to be had! Man it is loud, sounds awesome!

Infact, Melbourne Pelicans, we're thinking of having a beer 'n' pretzels night sometime soon. We'll meet somewhere central and just get together and chew the fat. We'll take one of those "Pelican guys in a bar" photos and superimpose Liberace or someone in there too.. AKA Kurt B's photo!

Who's keen?
