For those of you on the fence post. The al. can strategy works fine on the engine side of the ducting as a block off when using non-heat exchanger headers. A simple hose clamp will affix the can bottom here. Advtracing's bolt-on versions are designed to mount to and block off the chassis end of the duct.

many ways to skin a cat ..as they say

a beer can bottom will sure work to cover the heater pipe but i set out to do an item that sealed the chassis and pipe from dirt and moisture . chassis is the most prone rust area
