go to "search" and look under "sportomatic conversion" or "sportomatic, 915" I know people have done it (Bob Thayer i think?) I was going to do it too but as I recall the guy I was talking to said it kept getting more and more expensive as the procedure went on. The tale he told made my perfect sporto system seem much more appealing!

How come you want to do the swap??? Is it just for the "better" box or is an engine swap involved?

I have had the 901 in my '69 changed to a 915 (LWB, so not entirely useful). I haven't done it myself, so the details are sketchy.

I had problems with:

- tunnel clearance (solved with hammer)
- upgraded to 915 shift housing etc (more $$$)
- clutch cable and ectuating mechanism
- I used an SC box - I had to get an electronic speedo
- I upgraded to aluminium trailing arms
- this meant I could use SC axles easily
- however, the shock dust cover has to be removed as it fouled the mount

There was a bunch of other stuff. I am guessing you will face these problems, PLUS any issues specific to SWB.

As I went to an SC engine, I have no idea whether the clutch, etc, you have is compatible.

CamB, Ummm... YES...
901 might not be up to the challenge of 300+ ponies at flywheel via mild supercharged aircooled greenback killer... did you say hammer I love hammers... I may just opt for a flatter power curve at the cost of a few ponies to keep the 901 alive longer... the goal of the 68SWB is light as 67 911R or lighter with a more streetable but powerful blown motor... I already have the blower and an assotment of pulleys to tailor the boost... Transaxle limits and driver self control are the only areas that need to be sorted out...

Very very cool. I for one would like to see pictures as and when it comes together.

Have you seen this:

www.mark.hargett.com (hmmm, link didn't work that time for me?)

What I have read suggests that with much over 300hp, the 915 won't necessarily last that long either (you will need an ally cased one for certain). Other alternatives are a G50 (big $$$) or a 930 gearbox (4 speed).

Good luck. Sorry I can't give any more details than what I have above.

G-50 is out (spend that much just buy a racear and get the trans axle)... 930 box same (to easy)... 915 or 901... one of my buds has been teasing me about coming to the dark side and learning the internal ways of 901's on a more in depth and intimate level... this fall I will start to shop more fiberglass and another set of fuchs 6X16... see y'all at Pomona... Cool link it worked for me... only thing lacking is a dyno sheet chassis type...
Thanks....
