from what I understand, Halon is solely a gas. It puts out the fire by displacing the oxygen in the environment. Halotron is a foam, which both smothers the fire (and displaces oxygen? not sure). both are non corrosive, Halon being a gas and Halotron being supposed to evaporate completely. I asked several people, including a volunteer fireman friend of mine, and based on their opinions, went with Halon. If you're talking about a central system though, keep in mind that Halon will displace all of the oxygen in the cockpit, making it hard to breathe.

Hope this helps.

Jared
