Mahle Cylinder Head Gasket

I have a 1974 911 Targa I just purchased. I removed the engine and tore down the engine. The engine was modified in 1989 with 3.0L Mahle 95ZN1++W8 cylinders and pistons by Andial. My particular cylinders have NO top groove for a head gasket and there were no head gaskets. The sealing just relied on metal to metal contact. I'm concerned about rebuilding the engine with no head gasket. Does anyone have experience with this?

Thanks, Cary

the "head gasket" is a fluid barrier. the actual sealing is metal to metal.

Thanks for the quick response. Being an American Iron engine builder, I wasn't sure this was normal. Anyway, it makes sense.

Thanks, Cary
