According to Mr. Peter Zimmermann's The Used 911 Story on page 21, you have a 1982 Porsche 911 SC coupe with a six cylinder gas engine with displacement of 2994 and 172 horsepower for the US/Canada market. Also, digit place nine or where your "X" is located is a test digit according to Mr. Zimmermann. I also checked the Porsche 911 Red Book 1965-1999 on page 75 by Mr. Patrick C. Paternie and you have 0703 out of 2,457 produced between August 1981 to July 1982. I hope this helps! Congratulations on the car!

Thanks so much. I went to my local bookstore this past weekend to buy "the used 911 story", but no luck.

I hope one day I can contribute and help others, as others have helped me on this site.

You may want to search this website for Peter Zimmermann and send him a private message as he will undoubtedly know where you can buy one. I also would recommend Paul Frere"s Porsche 911 Story, Wayne Dempsey's 101 Projects for Your Porsche 911 and How to Rebuild and Modify Porsche 911 Engines both I'm sure are sold here, Bruce Anderson's Porsche 911 Performance Handbook, Patrick Paternie's Porsche 911 and Porsche 911 Red Book 1965-1999 and although you do not need it now, it is still great reading, Randy Leffingwell's Porsche 911 Buyers Guide. If you are truly insane, like me, you will no doubt invest (because the books cost a small fortune) in Karl Ludvigsen's Porsche: Excellence Was Expected along with Excellence the magazine and Christophorus straight from the factory. I have always jumped into everything 110% or I never did it. These folks on this board will help you a great deal, I often just read, learn and absorb like a sponge. There are a lot of nice people here and they will help you.

Joe Bob, if you are like me, Porsche has its own language and often I have to decipher and then translate into English. So no big deal, because if I didn't have Mr. Zimmermann's book I would not have known.

Mr. Zimmermann wrote a wonderful article for Excellence, September 2012, titled "The Car Saver" where he talked about anticipation. On page 139, he stated "[t]he human brain can only respond to what its been exposed to." That holds true for our experience with Porsches and in life.
