Lowering Help
Hi,
I was reading about how to lower my car, in the 101 Project book. I came upon this passage and am curious. Does an 87 Carrera qualify as a "later" 911? Also, how much effect on the ride height can one expect? The car is currently at stock height. Thanks, Bill If you have a later model 911, then you’re in luck, as you don’t have to remove the torsion bar covers and radius arms to get at least some degree of adjustment. On these cars, the radius arms were equipped with an adjustment screw. To raise or lower the rear of the car, simply loosen the large nut and bolt closest to the torsion bar. Then rotate the other bolt located next to it. This bolt is eccentric, and will cause the rear of the car to be raised or lowered as you turn it. Adjust the height as described previously, and then tighten the bolt located nearest to the torsion bar. Make sure that you don’t touch the two nuts located towards the rear of the car: these adjust the toe-in and the camber for the rear suspension, and should only be adjusted by a trained professional using an alignment rack. |

that is correct, you have a later model with the concentric and locking nuts. Have fun and don't forget to have everything aligned and corner balanced afterwards.

You will feel the road/bumps more, but the feeling entering and exiting the turn will be worth it! Cheers art agrimmitt@pelican |

Thanks for the advice, especially about following up with the alignment and corner balance. I would like to drop the car about an inch, or so. By lowering it, using the eccentric, how low will it go?

Depends on where the eccentric currently is. I think there is a little over an inch total adjustment. So, if yours is somewhere near the "middle" currently, you may only get 1/2 inch or so either way (up or down).

Also, be sure to shorten the rubber snubbers inside the shocks to provide adequate shock travel.
