Hard Oil Line thready damaged by aggressive dremel user - Am I out of luck?
Guys,
I've been trying to disconnect the hard oil lines from where they connect to the short flexible lines - just before the front oil cooler on my '87 Carrera. I tried employing the approach of taking some material off the large 36mm nut with a dremel, but I ended up going just a little too far. Remarkably enough, the new short oil lines thread onto these damaged threads just fine. Can you take a look at the below pic and let me know whether you think this requires repair, replacement or have I lucked out? ![]()

Fire it up and try it......your other alternative is to braise another fitting on.

Hi
|
I did more damage than that when I replaced an oil line and it sealed up nice. Give it a try.

If it doesn't work out I have a set of hard lines used in pretty good shape.

the actual sealing is between the ball and socket. the threads only pull the parts together. should be fine.

Maybe wire brush that area really good. As long as it doesn't damage and strip the threads on the mating piece you should be OK.

Use plenty of never seize and put it back together. As John Walker says, the threads don't provide the seal. If it does end up leaking some oil perhaps some high temp silicone tape might do the trick.
