What temp on an 83 sc

Ok, just for fun....on the late model SC's 80 thru 83's when the temperature gauge is at dead balls on 9 o'clock..even with the 'temp' writing on the gauge, what is the temp in F degrees?
I've seen a few aftermarket numerical appliques that show dif numbers....what is the concensus?

operating temperature question

If you look at the graphic in that thread, you'll see the numbers on the left edge of the factory gauge; you should be able to see them under the edge of the gauge itself. Apparently they all have them. The decals are different when intended for different gauges with different ranges - they should all put you in the same range - normal - when the needle points at 9 o'clock.

Earlier cars used "real" gauges; my '77 had numbered temperature/pressure gauges (0-340F and 0-140PSI respectively) from the factory.

I've seen the tick mark and noted that folks refer to them as a temp mark...I'm not sure as they exist on all of the gauges and I am guessing they were for alignment of the attached number plate...they seem to be square to the needle pivot point.
I agree that 9 oclock is normal...just wondered as to what the actual temp number is.
I'm guessing 221 or thereabouts.

Go and look at the numbers on your gauge if you want to know. No need to guess.

Oh, ok.....what numbers? The very small Celcius numbers hidden off the scale are not at the 9 oclock position...there are no numbers.

Yep, those numbers.....personally I don't trust the gauge and find that 9 o'clock is really around 195F on mine as verified by my handheld pyrometer. But I'm taking temps at the oil tank and external lines.

Calculating C to F and guessing what the middle is, is about 215-220F......not exact as the 'tick' isn't at 9 o'clock.

A pyrometer is a handy tool....I have an extra one if ya wanna borrow or buy it.

Joe Bob, I'm 'guessing' the same and that was the point.
195 @ 9 o'clock ain't right tho. A laser temp gauge is pretty loosy goosey as it is still an external measurement and the little laser dot is not the actual measured surface, it is much broader hence the fluctuating numbers with slight movement. If mine were that far off I'd pull the sender and put it in hot oil with another temp gauge to see for sure.
