yellow shroud is correct for 73.5 CIS

this should settle it as I have seen this argued and postulated on here that a CIS shroud was uniquely black. Well I have a side by side comparison of the 2 very different yellow shrouds for 73.

yes a yellow shroud is also correct I have both here CIS and MFI side by side (see photos) and a CIS is different than a yellow shroud for an MFI engine in two significant ways
1) the air tunnel for the oil cooler is integrated for a CIS (MFI have a separate grey long piece)
2) the diameter of the injector clearance is larger for a CIS than the MFI shrouds

also the harness port for the alternator comes strait out of the center of the shroud on the CIS
it runs to the side the tunnel on an MFI set up

the intakes were black and were made of steel.

Thanks for the research. I always knew my yellow shroud was original.

I guess they used both. Mine was black, as were the other 4 engines I have had.

Nice work!!

'73 was a transitional year for the "T" and Porsche, being a small manufacturer, always used up previous year's parts before proceeding to the following year's specifications.

Its not surprising to see components from the MFI-'ed "T" engines still used on early CIS "T" engines before the full transition.

Same things happened in '68'-'69, '72-'73, '73-'74, and '75-'76. It didn't occur as frequently after SC production started.

Like Ed's, my 73.5 CIS is yellow. PO painted it black, but I'm considering stripping it back down to the original yellow.

Thanks for the pics 914agogo!
