Monterey Historics Wine Tour Drive / Fun Run to Hahn Winery 8/19!!!!!!

COST = $0.00.

in 2010 the 2nd Annual Pelican drive was cancelled. I thought I would continue the drive to drive that was so much fun. Let me be clear, this is not a Pelican sponsored event - rather something I have organized for us to enjoy! There is enough room for about 30-40 cars - so please email me directly (and post here so others will know) at porschecab@comcast.net so I can keep a tally.

The drive or fun run is August 19th, 2011. Time should be 8:30AM to meet at Safeway (same parking lot as last year) and the drive will be the same journey as last year and commence at the lovely Hahn Winery (as last year). As last year the run was a spirited drive through the backcountry of Monterey, ending up at the picturesque Hahn Estates Winery. The roots of the Hahn Estates Winery date back to the Hahn family’s European heritage. It is a fantastic drive and those that went in 2009 and 2010 had a blast and those that missed it, well, missed it.

I have worked with the wonderful folks at Hahn and have made some special arrangements to use the tasting room - parking lot - tables - etc. There are several picnic benches and such for all of us to use, but we will have to bring our own food & drinks. The folks at Hahn have made a very generous gesture to waive the "tasting fee" in the tasting room so a great chance to taste some nice wines.

COST = $0.00.

There will be NO COST to join us - but you must contact me so I can keep count. I hope to see you there and please respond as soon as you can to porschecab@comcast.net and post below if you are going so others can get excited about it!

I will be posting more details, journey, etc - but see last years link - has the same layout drive for 2011!!

I am in (of course) for the third year in a row of doing this drive. Thanks for getting us together for what has become one of the highlights for me during THE WEEKEND!

TIMES LISTED ON THE PICTURE ARE NOT CORRECT! WE PLAN ON DEPARTING SAFEWAY AT 9.15AM!

Attached is the route and details.

Several of us will plan on being there at 8.30/8.45 with a departure (after buying sandwiches at Safeway) around the 9.15 hour.

Start:
Safeway Parking Lot
104 Mid Valley Center
Carmel, CA 93923

Finish:
Hahn Winery Estates
37700 Foothill Road
Soledad, CA 93960

Borrowed map from 2009 Drive.

NOTE - time is SLATED for a 9.15 departure not the times shown in the picture!

Thanks

Porschecab

Thanks for putting this together.

I attended the first one put together by Pelican Parts. I had a blast, and do not understand why Wayne would not want to sponsor another one. I know it's more regional and maybe that's why, but I appreciate the forums on here and I support PP over many parts suppliers.

wgwollet -
I asked those same questions and Wayne said it just wasn't financially feasible. He did have quite a staff set up for the Porsche mark year of 2009 - so maybe those darned employee costs (comp, really) was the deal breaker. It is a great drive, indeed.
By the way, for any of you out there that can help me use or create the same map in which I can adjust dates/times (which I can modify each year with dates/times) and will allow me to print actual street names/etc (to hand out to each car on the day of) - it would be greatly appreciated.
I don't have those skills - but if you'd like to discuss home audio, we can chat (I mean listen) for hours!
Dan

Hello

Porschecab

Yes it takes work for sure, plus the fee must be reasonable or people will not attend.

I live in the Mid West so you are blessed with great roads, weather, etc. I was in Carmel area then and will be in SF that week.

Dan , I'm pretty handy dandy with google maps, that could be printed up with all the roads used! I haven't done this exact route before but have put together quite a few runs now in the bay area using these maps.

Otherwise I could write something up on ms word and paste in the maps to the document. This could then easily be modified with different dates etc.

I've never had any cost involved in the runs I've been on, but if there's any costs involved I'm more than willing to contribute.

I'm going to Concorso Italiano this year; my 12 year-old nephew is mad about Italian supercars. Have fun!

Hey Dan

My buddy has a 1972 BMW Tii and would like to join the drive. Is fellow German car enthusiast welcome? Who knows, maybe he will get the Porsche bug after the event. Let me know. Thanks.

Richard,
Glad you are going to join us - excellent. Indeed, your friend with the BMW can join us, but of course he will have to park outside of Hahn - can't have his car mixed in with the Porsche cars!
Can you send me an email so I can communicate with you both via email directly as well? Like to keep the list current.
Thanks!
