at first this seems like an inexpensive alternative to tuning and not dealing with cis parts that are no longer available. BUT... what happens with this set up is that you get icing because of those long intake tracts. Not likely on warm days, but drive this van up a hill on a cool night and it will ice up

I have heard of it in one instance, the biggest problem I've heard with doing it, is that its hard to get the jetting right for a proper powerband, the jets available tend to run rich in the lower RPMS

The issue can be already heard when he is revving it. Throttle response is non-existent. The fuel is taking a long time to get down there through those intake runners, accelerator pump or not. I am no expert, but a tall intake manifold like that on a single carb engine (i.e. an American V8) would have no torque down low and be built to launch a drag race car starting out with a trans brake at high rpm. To do this right, you'd have to have much shorter intake runners, which is not possible with the intake port layout on the Porsche flat 6.

This is a good example of dumb cheap IMHO. I can see a 911 owner get desperate, but if you have the coin to buy a Porsche engine for your Vanagon, you should do it right.

Here an old thread with a lot of discussion on this subject:

so after reading all the posts and seeing it run in person. I bought the carb set up. I will be trying it on my 2.7 powered car

I know there are issues with it, but my car has been off the road for too many years! I plan on installing this when I get home from vacation. to get my car back on the road. then fixing my CIS system over the winter

I will let you guys know first hand thoughts
