UPS Found my gearbox!

Ok, crisis over, it wasn't actually lost, although they couldn't tell me exactly where it was for a day.

It appears that when EBS sent it out to me, it weighed 149.00 lbs. When it got to the hub in Reno, they weighed it again and it weighed 153 lbs... so they sent it back to EBS (A hearty "Thank you" goes out to UPS for that).

SO they are sending it again and it should be here tomorrow or the day after... in the meantime... i've been occupying myself by detailing the bottom of the car and in and around the engine bay.
Here are a few pics... more to come tomorrow...

...oh... and I hope you don't mind but half of you guys cars are now gracing the walls of my garage!

Leland, Glad to hear that they found your trans. That's a pretty big thing to lose. Also car looks great- what is the name of that color? (I like it). What did you use to clean bottom of car? Are you doing some fixing on motor(leak), or is that all handled? Good luck!

And to think...I was hoping Lee would be happy if the UPS (girl?) showed up with a pool cue? Lee? What's going on here? A Pea-raid concours effort? NOW I think I know what the trailer was about...If I'm right, you can be a sneaky young guy, can't you? LOVEIT!

Leland. Someone stole your engine! And it looks like they wiped away the fingerprints, too!

Just kiddin', of course. So where's your engine now?

And uh...that second picture looks somehow...vulgar, yet strangely compelling.

My favorite part is the clean, beautiful ground strap. Boy do I love good electrics!

As soon as I get of fline from writing this, I'm going to call and get the new tracking number and see when the tranny should arrive.
The reason it weighed so much was because they put all of the old worn out parts in along with the tranny (So I could see why they replaced stuff), which made it just weigh too much.
Now the old parts are coming in a seperate box.
I'm working up to the last minute, as this weekend is the Bogus Basin hill Climb!

If I remember correctly, the paint is Bronze Metallic which was an optional color in '79. Makaio has the same color on his coupe. I used a cheap engine degreaser from Walmart to clean the underside. I just soaked it , lightly scrubbed on tough area, then let it sit, soaked again... then used my garden hose to rinse it all off. Most of it wasn't even "grease"... it was just road crap... (don't really know how to describe it...)

Cary, I was going to use the carb cleaner... but it was too expensive!

Paul, I still haven't seen the pool cue... but if they are made in the south east...don't fret... they are probably working 18 hour days on it...
My car will never be a garage queen... I just needed something to occupy my time for a day. I thought it looked cool so I took a few pictures.

Mark, I don't even want to know...

Jdub, I see you've got yourself another project...
I think I found a real gem yesterday as well... it appears to be a late sixties to early 70s Karmann Ghia cabriolet just sitting in a feild behind a UHaul center outside of town... funny thing is, it's on my way to work so I have driven by this thing every day for 4 and a half years... never seen it.
Plates were last registered in '95. Probably been sitting there since then. Looks like someone put a tarp over the top to keep the rain out... that is long gone...
I dunno... if I could pick it up for a couple hundred dollars... or if it's been abandoned and inside city limits... I may be able to get it for nothing... my boss is also a part time cop, so I'll ask him about it tomorrow.

I have always loved Karmann Ghias! Especially Cabs!!!
And especially Cabs with a 2.7 911 motor in it!!!!!

Oh my god....is that what an engine compartment is supposed to look like?
Wow....I'm in BIG trouble....LOL
Mine looks more like the bottom of a coal mine.
Damn...just when I thought I was on top of the process...Leland....you had to raise the bar another notch.
Oh well.....mine may not measure up yet (still sanding...no paint) I'll make it to the Round-Up if I have to drive it in primer!!

Eric,
It wasn't hard to get it up on those stands... they're 6 ton rated K-mart specials... (hence the two safety backup tires ).

I put the front up about 15 inches and the rear ones almost up to the maximum height... I removed the rear valance and it is still only at 32 in. Since I've never R&Red the engine without a lift, this will be a new experience for me. Yes, I know I'm spoiled.

I did a bit of digging and found that Wayne suggests to get the rear 34 inches off the ground to clear a CIS motor... we'll see...

It goes in.... tomorrow... dum dum dummmmm...

Moses, she'd never make it as a delivery person.
She's got the boots right, but her hair should be contained, theres no diad board, and where the heck does she put her pen?
