Question side window trim piece removal?

I wish to remove the trim piece on one of the side window for repainting. Is there a way to remove this without removing the window or damageing the trim piece? 81'SC

The proper way is to remove the entire window, that is done by prying the rubber seal over the lip on the chassis, done from the inside.

Once the whole assembly is out of the car, the metal trim piece pops out.

You could probably pry the metal trim piece out while the window is still in the car, but you risk bending it. Plus, you don't get anywhere by doing that, because you are going to have to take the window out anyways to get the metal trim back in.
