need corner balance & alignment near Augusta, GA

My 911 needs a corner balance and alignment and I'm having trouble finding someone who can do it.

So far in Augusta I have had zero luck finding anyone with corner balancing scales and I really don't want to buy something I will rarely use. I did find an alignment shop that thinks they can align it.

My only good lead so far is Autometrics, in Charleston, SC, about 3 hours away. They said corner balance and 4 wheel align for $90/hour, probably a 3-4 hour job.

Anybody know anyone good a little closer to me?

I also live in Augusta, I had Drew Slayton in Aiken align my 911 a couple of months ago. Do an Internet search on him and you will find he has been building and working on Porsche race cars for years. He works part time at a Porsche shop in charlotte so, it may take a week or two to schedule an appointment. He aligns the old school way by strings. His number is 803 648-1428

I know its a bit far but well worth the trip to see Galermo @ the Aligment Store, right behind Andretti's on Hwy 9 in Roswell. Directly across from Jackson Acura.

I thought they would as well. When I called them today they didn't seem able or interested. They did give me the lead on Autometrics, however.

Thanks. Charleston is probably a bit closer, and a nicer drive.

I was paying Drew a compliment saying he aligned with strings. If if it is good enough for Porsche race cars it is good enough for my 911

No prob. I did do a google after y'all mentioned the strings, and I found a good article explaining it. But at the very end, it mentioned that the guy no longer uses strings: he uses a tripod mounted laser so he doesn't have to worry about tripping over the strings.

I home aligned mine with strings then took it to a pro to verify....gave him the paper with my settings...he kinda smirked....came back to get me within a few minutes and showed me the readout while the car was still on the machine....I was dead on where I thought I was.
I may never go back to an alignment guy again for the Carrera.

it gets you very cloes in the ball park to comforatably drive the car to a a prof.

Yah, I was amazed when I did one with strings on my 73 hot rod (camber with a magnetic level), took a couple of tries and a lot of time but it did not pull and I never had any tire wear. I used the tripod method for a rough corner balance and I am starting to think that is more important than the alignment. Once the CB came together the car was magical to drive. I was always fooling around with the ride height and trying different parts on the suspension so repeated alignments and CBs would of been really expensive.

Now the bad news - on my 97 M3 when I installed an adjustable suspension and some spherical bushings I guess I was a little cocky - ate the inside of the front tires to the cord in fairly short order and had it reset by a local run of the mill shop when I replaced the tires. Alignment on an 90s m3 is very similar to most cars on the road unlike the torsion bar 911s.

I am in Conyers and not too far from Augusta and would love to do it with you but I just dont have time any more.
