How can I check my thermostat? I have a 77 with 2.7, the engine temp hits 210 pretty easily on highways so something is wrong. I have reached in and touched the front loop cooler and it is cold!
What else should I do and can the thermostats be fixed or do they have to be replaced? Shawn |

Check your oil lines, make sure they have not been flattened by some clown at a tire shop. If the lines look fine, it is probably your thermostat. You can rebuild them, the parts are available from Pelican. Tom ------------------ 82 911SC Coupe |

I'd agree that you have already tested your thermostat and that checkinf or pinched lines is now in order. Ultimately, you can remove the thermostat and place it, along with a thermometer, in a pan of cool water. Set the pan on the stove (do this without being caught by the house female) and heat it to boiling. Water boils at 212 degrees F, and the thermostat should be open long before that.

A single burner hotplate works well out in the garage ... and there are probably quart-sized saucepans around with half of the Teflon scraped off that could be relegated to garage use. Especially, if the ruling female of the roost is presented with a new $14.99 replacement, after being consulted about said retirement, of course!

Thanks everyone I will check for those pinched hoses. I did a quick look but will look closer. I will also take out the thermostat and test it.
Great advice as always Thanks again Shawn |
