New to Pelican

Hello to everyone. So after years of dreaming and searching for a 911,I have finally found my new ride, and im loving every minute i spend driving it.Its a 1970 with a nicely done 80's widebody conversion. When I bought the car,it came with 16"riken wheels, but the offset was wrong, and even with the big spacers,it just didnt look good.I stumbled across a set of practically new gotti wheels and rubber, and boy does this look thing look mean now.It has a weber carburated 2.4,and after some fine tuning she pulls very strong, and sounds incredible.
I have some plans for maybe a bigger engine swap,or possibly a turbo set up over the winter, but for now,im really loving this.

Welcome to the Forum. Looks like you have a car that hits all the air cooled Porsche's except the short wheel base.

Nice to be finally living the dream eh?!
Looks like a well done car. Was it an 'E' before the conversion? And plans on taking it back to Longhood?

Thanks to all for the warm welcome.Im new to porsche cars in general,so please excuse my ignorance. Not sure if it was an E,and is longhood close to Canada?just kidding eh .Ive always loved the widebody look, which is what I really wanted, and had a hard time finding a solid car here in Canada.I know the purists are probably shaking their heads when the hear of an early car being converted, but I love them all none the less.looked at a few over the years, and all were quite soft near the front torsion bar supports, and still priced high .When I found this car and driving out 2 hours to see it,I imediately looked at all the common weak spots, and to my surprize this car was solid, and just as nice as advertized. The body and paint ,interior is in amazing condition, and after a spirited 20 minute road test through some beautiful country roads,I handed the seller a deposit, and he delivered the car to me the following week, which seemed like one of the longest weeks of my life
Also wanted to mention that Im selling my Riken bbs style wheels with or without rubber if anyone is interested. They ar 16/7 and 16/8's,and are in excellent condition. They will be better suited for narrow body cars. The first pic is with the riken rims on the car.
so recently made my own stone guarsds since finding any parts here are next to impossible. They came out extremely well, and took these shots today
.

There is so much that is not 1970 on that car that I wonder if the chassis is really a '70. Not to take away from the car, it's stunning.

Could you shoot some pics of the dash and open front hood with the carpet pulled back? Left, right and forward including the spare tire well and battery placement. I'm just curious. Also, maybe some pics of the engine, right and left.

AS I said, it's a beautiful car. I picked up on some things like non opening rear windows and possibly no speaker in the dash. Sure, the dash can be replaced and probably was because they crack. The console and door panels represent a complete interior change out and many have done this.

So, the real items will be found in the trunk and engine bay. Does the car still have the dual battery boxes? As I said, I'm just curious. Someone obviously put a lot of time in that car.

Sorry, I didn't see the rear window latches. Strike a pretty important indicator. Also, in the rear clip you will find that the package tray and bulkhead have straight ribs until '72. I think on the '70 you will find a warm air outlet on the top of the RH rear sub frame just under the oil tank. Those 2 items that I can think of at the moment indicate an early chassis.

With the bumper mods, the front and rear latch panels have been replaced with later ones, so you have to look inward.

Sorry if I raised any doubts. Your car looks to be thoroughly upgraded. And I mean thoroughly.

BTW, what tranny do you have? Determined by shift pattern. 2.4's came with a 915 with a upward dog leg shift to 5th. 70's had a dog leg shift from 1st to 2nd and a straight shift to 5th downwards.

Gonna take some more pics as soon as I get kiddies to bed.my tranny has first to the left and down position which I do not like and will eventually swap out.going to check and see if I can see any numbers on the engine case.seller stated it was a 2,4 but I never confirmed.could be a 2.2.was very lack luster when I got it,but fine tuned the carbs, put a couple more deg of timing in her,and she sings real nice now

Another big indicator will be the VIN.
should start with 9110 for a 1970 car and the the next digit will either be:
1 for T
2 for E
3 for S

It's amazing how much work people were willing to put into a conversion.

Cool. A 70 'E' (in long hood form) can be a valuable/desirable car. The number you posted is the case casting type a 3R case could have been a 2.2 motor or a very early 2.4 motor.
What does the engine serial # start with? This # located on the vertical support next to the fan.
Like this. 911 engine codes

A 2.2 E engine would have a number starting with 620XXXX where the 2 designates 'E' and the 0 is for 1970.
Please note that the pistons and cylinders could have been changed out though. If you've got an 'E' case you might just have the original engine for the car. Hold on to it if you do! A 2.2 E is a VERY cool car.
