Track wheels or rollers - what do you think?

the other day i'm going through craigslist looking for a set of cheap roller wheels for a car i'll probably be parting out. i came across an ad that said "borbet wheels with racing slicks for $125." so naturally I call the guy and he tells me he wants $100 for the set. i figure that's a decent price for a complete set of rollers.
So i go to pick them up. as i'm looking at them the wheels seem straight and true they are borbet 16x 7.5 & 9" with hoosier 225/50 and 245/45's and they look to be in decent shape.
so my question is how do i determine if these slicks still have useable life in them or if they are just the rollers i was looking for. it almost seems like they are too good for rollers.
any opinions?

Is there a build date on the tires ? Usually slicks denigrate after about 5 heat cycles and in time, they get hard, so more suited for street use in the dry. Drove a Triumph GT-6 with FF slicks on the street for a long time...way whoopie in the wet :=)

Those are not slicks. They are DOT R compound tires.

My general opinion is that if you don't have good knowledge of their history, you are better treating them as "used up". Great for your roller needs.....

Hard to read but I think the box says "R3S03" which means they are from about 2003/4, too old to use on track now. The last several generations of Hoosier R-comps have two equally spaced grooves, not two grooves next to each other and offset to one side like those tires. I would not use them for more than rollers, unless you like driving on ice. Good buy for $100.
